Is the english exam IELTS / TOEFL required for the licensure exam in any state?

I was confused whether I should take the IELTS first before applying for registration / permission to be able to sit for the exam.

I have a similar question. I'm taking the NCLEX here in the Philippines, and when I pass it, I intend to go to the US on a tourist visa as well. My aunt is friends with the head of the Philippine Nursing Association in CA, and she said it wouldn't be a problem for them to sponsor me (or something like that) and for the hospital (or whoever is in authority) to convert my tourist visa to an immigrant visa. But if what you said is true, then I'll have to apply for a VisaScreen (?). My mom said that if I do that, and the immigration finds out that I have a tourist visa, they will cancel my tourist visa? Is this true? I don't want to lose my tourist visa, because I visit my fiance in CA every 6 months. I think it's much better to have it than hope for an immigrant visa which is not guaranteed to be available because of the retrogression.

There is retrogression and no way can your visa be adjusted so doing what they suggest will result in deportation, ban from between 3-10 years and you will loose your tourist visa. Even if you could AOS you would need VSC in hand as that is a requirement for a nurse moving to the US unless obtaining a visa another route like marriage. Is your fiance a USC and do you have a date set? If applying for VSC it will/should not cancel your tourist visa but will need plenty of proof that you will be returning home after your visit but at the end of the day it is up to the officer at POE who decided whether to allow you access to the US or not

If you check the VSC handbook it will give you the scores on pass marks required for the English exam. Also be aware with retrogression you are looking at a few years waiting

If the state requires a English exam then you have to do it, however if the BON recognises that your training was done in English they may waiver it. A lot will go on what CES report states. You are looking at approx 4-6 months to go through the process. In what way are you AOS?

hi! thanks silverdragon102.I entered in the US with K1 visa (non immigrant). Kansas State Board of Nursing required toefl/tse for foreign nurses in which instructions was not in english. what should i do? Or it is wise to apply in other state then I apply for reciprocity. thank you againfor the info.God bless us.

Immigration and licensure are two very distinct entities. Even if you would hold a US passport, if you trained overseas, then you must meet the requirements for the foreign trained nurse. And going thru another state and then endorsing back to the state that you want, will not change the requirement of the English exam.

Some states, such as Illinois, will exempt the English exam if the training was 100% in English, but not all states will do this. It is up to the BON to make that determination for you. If they tell you that you need it, then it is something that you are going to need to complete before they will grant permission for you to sit for the exam.

We also do not have reciprocity between licenses in the US; it only exists for the NCLEX exam and it means that the results from the exam are accepted all over the US as well as US territories.

CES should be able to indicate to the BON if your training was completely in English and meets BON requirements. If not then you will have to do the English exams.

What CES mean? im sorry im not updated

thanks

CES is credential evaluation and is done by CGFNS and a lot of states require this when trained overseas. Each BON/BRN will tell you what their requirements are for foreign trained and you will have to meet them
