We have a great NCLEX forum which will surely help. You have to meet the state board of nursing (BON) requirements for foreign trained nurse and that will vary with each state. At some stage you will also have to pass English if it isn't your first language and finally with retrogression you are looking at several years waiting

You need to apply for license to the state nursing board that you want to work. Meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse and pass NCLEX. Once you have done that then find a employer and join the queue for retrogression and a long wait for a visa. There are exam centers all over the world so you do not have to go to the US to take the exam

hi, ablez.

I am romanian too. I live presently in Uk, but I want to start my application for California licensure.

Have you passed your nclex allready? Could you tell me what is the equivalent in US our nursing education in Romania? Is it degree or diploma?

Thank you and nice to know there are other romanian nurses in there.

Welcome

i would suggest you consider another state as much has already been written about why we do not recommend CA for inital license. You are looking at several years waiting for a visa for the US and CA will destroy your file if you do not provide a SSN within 3 years or ask for a extension.

Hi Magda

I don't know if you are still there? I just found out about your question. I lost my pass word and I couldn't been able to connect to the server. Let me know what you have done?

Salut,

Thanks for your message back. Yes, I have managed to send all my paper to Ca Bon in march. Unfortunatelly, I have received yesterday a letter from them informing me that FBI rejected my fingerprinting card on the grounds that the ''characteristics are too weak". So, I have to go and re-do it again. And that will delay again my ATT. Anyway, it has to be done. What are you doing at the moment? Are you working already in US as RN?

Numai bine, Carmen.

I am so sorry to hear all of that. I passed my NCLEX-RN last November. I failed first but thanks God I passed second time. Since that day I am looking for a job and I couldn't find any in NY. Unfortunately economic crisis effected even the health care system. Many hospitals aren't hiring anymore and hospitals are going bankrupt. So the market is terrible right now. I applied nursing homes per diem, positions almost like 55 hospitals in all NY States and most of them told me that I'm not qualified and some of them that even answered back. They don't consider my experience from my country. Right now I'm kind of desperate not been able to find a job. You can write me any time. I wish everything will be better for you. I wish you best of luck.

Hi!

Congratulations first of all for taking Nclex! :yeah: You'll have to tell me the secret!! How did you study? Did you had a schedule daily and if so, how many hours were you studying and for how many months have you continued studying? And which reviews have you used?

About your job, I am sorry to hear that still the economy is so bad in US. And especially now with the new healthcare bill voted I was thinking that soon more opportunities will arise. I know it very well how it is to have a nursing experience but not to be recognized. I have felt it on my skin in here in UK, and I did struggle for a while to find a job in hospital. Because in here, even if you work as an RN in a nursing home it is very difficult to find a job in a hospital. Difficult, yes. But not impossible! I did it!

It took me few months, but I am working since 3 years ago in an NHS hospital (that is a national service hospital -goverment) and I am in top pay for my band.

So, I am sure you will find something soon. You just have to persevere and not to loose your hopes. Just try every day!

I think it is better to apply for a permanent position rather than per diem, as they want somebody with local experience for a per diem job.

Best of luck! And don't forget to tell me about Nclex.

Oh, and one more thing... How long did you have to wait for your ATT letter?

Thank you!

Buna Carmen

Thank you for your support but this bill it's not helping right now maybe in about next 2-3 years it will be a great opportunity for health care providers. I don't want to discourage you by giving you this information but this is the situation right now. I agree for all what you've said about nursing homes and per diem but unfortunately I have no other choice than to find a job to survive. I even applied to other states license NJ and CT.

I have to say that I am impressed by your courage and to be able to start all over from the beginning in another country. Actually it took me a little longer to get my verification in NY because I wasn't aware the fact in CA that you don't need to pass by Education Department CGFNS examination and IELTS.

For me it took approximately 2,5 year to be able to sit for NCLEX-RN. I had studied like 1 year 5 hours per day 4-5 days a week. I had studied at that time from library's books preparation for NCLEX-RN but it didn't helped. So I failed and I heard about Kaplan Course for NCLEX-RN it was very helpful it was focusing on strategic than theoretic you know we used to study theoretically that strategically. So for me Kaplan was the solution. Maybe for you studying from books will be enough because you have UK experience so this might be helpful while you studying.

Carmen I would like to know how is to be a nurse in UK and how you can work as a Romanian Nurse in UK what are the requirements to be able to work as an RN in UK?

Salutari
