Anyone can answer this...

I am holding a Vermont license and I am planning of submitting my California endorsement application at the soonest possible time. My Vermont license was issued last August 2006 and has already expired last March 31,2007. Am I still required to renew my Vermont license?

Moved your post here as it is more appropriate in the Int'l forum. Thank you for understanding.

Thanks Lawrence.

Since the license is inactive, it cannot be endorsed. Only active licenses can be endorsed. You cannot endorse without a SSN#, so you will need to go to plan #2.

The only option that you have available to you is to apply to CA for initial licensure and then have VT submit passing of the NCLEX exam to CA BRN. That is all that you can do, since there is no active license number. And if you look at the application for endorsement, it states that you need an active license to endorse. If it was not renewed before it expired, then it is inactive.

You are not required to renew it, but it cannot be used for endorsement. You should have submitted for endorsement before the expiration of that license.

Oh no, I have to shell out another 100 bucks :o. Anyway, thanks Suzanne.

You are forgetting a big factor. Unless you have a SSN# already, you cannot renew your license from VT. That is a requirement to renew anyplace.

You are no longer holding a VT license, it is inactive.

Do you mean I can delay my renewal until I get to the United States and apply for a SSN? If this is the case, will I also have to pay the late renewal charges of VT? Thanks.

You have no choice but to delay it, you do not have a SSN# as of yet. So you cannot renew the license. You also cannot endorse to CA until you have an active license, that is a requirement to endorse.

If you wish to be able to work soon after you arrive in the US, then just apply to CA for licensure by examination and get thru the process and have VT send the passing results to CA.

Your license in VT is already inactive due to the fact that it was not renewed prior to the deadline for it expiring. There will be additional fees to pay, not just the routine fee that was due before the deadline. You have no choice, there is not one thing that you can do about it at this time.

If you are not going to be working in VT, there is no reason to renew that license unless you wish to keep it. It would have been much easier for you to apply to CA for endorsement before that license expired, but now you have to to things the long way.

Hi, my friend applied to Vermont and passed the nclex last Oct 2006. A license was issued to her. Unfortunately, RN license in vermont has to be renewed every march 31 of an odd year. Therefore, her newly issued license expired last March 31, 2007. She applied for a renewal and it was renewed. BTW - she's still here in the Philippines, caught up in the retrogression and has no SSN yet.

I hope this info will help..... cheers.

I have actually called VT last year and asked if they renew license and the lady over the phone told me that if you meet the criteria for license renewal, they will renew the license even without a SSN.

It is up to each state to make the determination on an individual basis, and if you look at their website, it will tell you that you need the SSN#. Same thing that you see on the renewal for every single state.

And without a current and active license, there is no endorsement possible.
