CES Report question

Published

I am really hoping someone on here may be able to help me.

I have a Bachelors of Nursing from an Australian university. On my CES report it states that my Bachelors degree is the equivalent on an American diploma of nursing.

My husband is a hospital trained nurse from the UK. On his CES report it states that his training is the equivalent on an American diploma of nursing.

How can CGFNS say that my husband and my education is the same? I have a university degree and he does not.

I have tried to speak to CGFNS about this but have had no luck getting an answer. The person they said I need to speak too wont return my phone calls or emails.

I really want to do further study here in the US but I need to have the equivalent of a BSN to do it.

Thanks

You could look at WES and see what they do with your transcripts and what they assess you to be

Sorry Silverdragon/Miriam, am new here, what is WES? I've also got the Bachelors in Nursing from the University of South Australia (2013) and planning to apply for NCLEX in Texas for Registered Nurse. I've read somewhere that Australian Bachelors of Nursing is not equivalent to US and you need to do additional subjects in maternity, paeds and psychiatry, is it for this reason why Australian Bachelors is only equivalent to Diploma in Nursing in the US? Does it mean that if you do these three subjects CGFNS will already consider the Australian Bachelors as equivalent to USA's?

WES is another company like CGFNS who do overseas assessments. we have seen several Australian trained nurses state they don't meet requirements because they do not have obstetrics on their transcripts

I am currently completing my education requirements to sit the NCLEX in Florida (a remedial nurse review course 96 hours class/ 96 hours clinical). I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in West Australia with a bachelors degree in nursing. I used two different reporting agencies that where suggested from the Florida Board of Nursing's web page. Personally I found CGFNS very challenging to deal with as far as getting answers to any of my questions. I also applied to the Board of Nursing in Hawaii (where I was from originally) and they only accepted transcript evaluation from CGFNS. Hawaii nursing board would not allow me to sit the NCLEX regardless of further education from the report they received from CGFNS.

I would suggest if you are coming from another country first look at the individual states Board of Nursing web sites and see which evaluation agency they will accept. If they suggest more then one, use two different agencies. If the board requires you to take further education classes do not be discouraged. I have found the remedial review class a great help to get to know the US health care system and a time to further my clinical thinking skills combining my previous experience on the floor and reviewing the nursing process one system at a time.

Good luck with the process and do not be discouraged by the time it takes. Personally I allowed a year to get all the paperwork done and it has taken about that long. Feel free to contact me if I can help answer any other questions.

Cheers and Aloha!

Thanks Silverdragon/Ahua. BTW Ahua, did you use the IERF? Am planning to use them. I've read in one article that you can take the lacking subjects from Deakin Univ in Melbourne. Is that where you are taking your remedial nursing course right now? Will the assessing agency (CGFNS/ERES/IERF) tell you where you need to take up your remedial nursing course? Thanks again.

I would strongly suggest checking with the BON that they accept Deakin courses as I know California will not accept Deakin courses

Hi, I believe I had my education reviewed by ERES out of California (who I felt where very easy to communicate with) as well as CGNFS. Both were listed on the Florida Board of Nursing web page. After my application got reviewed the Board requested I take the remedial nurse refresher course from and only from institution listed on there web page who they approved of. I enrolled in FSW (Florida South Western University). Unfortunately the course isn't not offered very often; I believe only twice a year. Other courses that offer on-line learning required the student to set up clinical practice themselves which I read and heard could be a bit of a challenge. Good luck and don't give up!

Thanks for your help.

I have a degree from an Australian university but was able to sit the NCLEX without needing to do any bridging subjects. You really need to check with the BON in the state you want to became registered in.

Thanks Miriam/Ahua/SilverDragon. Miriam, which state BON you applied? I have just been a RN for more than 1 yr and haven't saved much yet to study 3 more subjects in Australian univ (could cost around $6,000 plus leave time off for clinicals). So am thinking if Texas BON will require me to do them, I'll try another state BON.

Do you know if your transcripts have Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult showing both clinical and theory hours? If you are missing anyone or more of them then no state will accept you

Hi Silverdragon, yes we took up all these topics but the problem is the subjects are termed differently, eg health of children, health of adults, health of older adults, so am not really sure if the evaluating agency would consider them. I guess it depends really on how the Nursing School would fill out those evaluation forms.
