Application to board of nursing

  1. Hi Guys,

I'm about to put my initial application into the California board of nursing, but I'm unsure if my fingerprints have to go in with the initial application or I do that later. Could anyone clear this up for me?
    Many Thanks.

Thanks for asking this question. Have been thinking of how to do the application myself.

Moved to the international forum as per the red banner.

I put my prints in the same application but you could send them afterwards just be prepared for the delay

You are also aware on why we don't recommend California for initial licensure?

No I don't know, we have set our hearts on California and we are prepared for the long haul with retrogression, why don't you recommend Cal for initial lisensure?

Ca will delete your file after 3 years without a SSN and as you know currently that is going to take longer with retrogression. Some people have been lucky to get an extension but not always a guarantee. There is nothing stopping you from going to another state first and meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse and then apply to Ca nearer the time of your move

Deleting your file will result in a loss of NCLEX results meaning you would have to sit it again. Much has been written about California

Thanks for the heads up, that would be a disaster. Do you know how long the state of Texas hold them for?
    Many Thanks.

Most other states do not do this (like Ca) although there are a few that will not issue a license without a SSN at least your file would be safe. Which ever state you go to you need to meet requirements for foreign trained nurse even if endorsing (can only endorse if you have a license to endorse)

Do I need to pass the nclex before registering with a state? Also are there any other states which just require nclex and not cgfns? I'm sorry for firing all these questions at you, it's an absolute minefield trying to find things out. Thanks again for your time.

There are only about 4 states that require CGFNS exam, most require CES from CGFNS which is a transcript evaluation, some states may use others but a lot will state so on their website. There is only Ca that destroys your file after 3 years unless you provide a SSN and we have seen members obtain an extension but know telling how long they will do it and also that they will guarantee extension. All states require NCLEX as that is the US national nursing exam
