Hi I am an IEN and I just recently migrated here in Saskatchewan. I have take the CRNE on June 1, 2011. While awaiting for the result, I would like to work immediately. I have sent my applications already to RQHR, Pioneer Village, Santa Maria Senior Citizens, Extendicare, Wintergreene Estates, William Booth,Dove House and Lutheran homes.. But I didn't get any calls yet. Im getting depressed already, Ive been here for almost a month without a job. Where else would you suggest I should apply?

Unfortunately you can't make people give you a job. And the process of hiring new staff is quite convoluted so it takes a lot of time. It's not unusual for several weeks to pass from the time a posting closes until the interviews are arranged. There's no such thing as speed in the human resources process. If you really need to have work you may have to settle for something that isn't nursing-related until you find a job in your field.

Got to agree with every word Jan typed. Even for internal applicants from application to transfer of units it can take upto 12 weeks.

Whooa. I never thought that could be so long. Oh well I think I will take certificate courses while waiting and also apply in a different field like what you have suggested. I really am depressed, thinking that no one, from the 8 applications I did, got interested.

Hang in there nursemich, you have presevered this far, now it's just a matter of time before you receive a job offer. Waiting can be hard but keeping busy wiil help the time go by quickly. If you are interested in volunteering, there are many places in Regina looking for volunteers, you can volunteer for a 1 day event such as Canada Day and/or you can volunteer a few hours a week at a nursing home, hospital or with a disability group. Volunteering helps others in the community and makes you feel good, it also has the added benefit of providing you with local referees. When Canadian employers ask potential employees for references they prefer local references in addition to international references.
