International Nursing?

Published

I graduated BSN Nursing School and got my RN License (new york state) July 2007. Right after graduation, my fiance was sent by his job to China where we live now so I was never able to start working in a hospital. I can't work in a hospital here seeing that I don't speak any Chinese. We are hoping to move to back New York/California/or Chicago next year but I am so worried about my nursing license. It doesn't expire until 2010 but I am really clueless about what i need to do to maintain it! I spoke to an RN from Canada and she told me that she needs 1000 hours of practice over 5 years to maintain her license (she is required to provide evidence that she has practiced to her Canadian Board of Nursing). I was able to find a job as a school nurse but I worry that it is not "legitimate" enough. I tried looking on the Board of Nursing website but it was confusing.

Can anyone help me? What do I need to do to keep my license? Should I suspend my license while I'm abroad and unable to work? If I do suspend my license what do I need to do to reinstate my license when I return? Thanks so much.
