I know I am not a nurse yet, but I had my first unresponsive pt last night, it was very interesting!! I work for a Medicare taxi...oops I mean an ambulance company... in the Chicagoland area doing mostly inter-facility transports...hosp to nursing home. We were holding the area when we get a call for the psych hosp to the main hospital for the unresponsive, keep in mind we are a basic ambulance. Long story short we get to the bedside, the pt is unresponsive to pain, GCS of 3, carotid is bounding out of her neck, BP is normal-ish. When we get to the ER, every pain technique isn't working...nurse said she might have stroked out...I haven't heard how she is...hope she's okay. Sorry for sounding like a nerd, but as a basic EMT I just don't see truly sick pt's!
