Hey everyone,
I have been interested in traveling nursing for while. It comes and goes. I have been a RN for 7 years. 5 years Oncology 2 years critical care. I am currently training to do Open heart nursing at my new job. It is interesting but I feel like I have lived in my state forever and I desire to see something new. I know that having this experience would be great but to pursue traveling with open heart experience I would need a good 2-5yrs experience. This is very intense stuff. I dont see myself staying her that long...I just can't.
I have been on orientation for 2 months now and I have been pretty ill on several occasions. I have received a verbal counseling regarding this and I am not sure if I want to continue the open heart training or pursue travel nursing. I am not eligible for FMLA due to how new I am to the facility.
If i call in again I will get a written counseling...I don't want that.
I was thinking of possibly asking to take a contract position with the ICU and after the contract ended I could pursue traveling.
I have heard traveling nursing can be very stressful as well and that could exacerbate my ailments. I am looking to go to Dallas, Texas if I do pursue traveling.
I DO NOT want to stay at the bedside forever. My idea job would consist of traveling the country while teaching or doing something with public health or the CDC. I am unsure what to do. This hospital where I am has great people and very supportive staff there but I dont know if I want to stay in my city. I am itching to get away..... I currently work staff but I do not get benefits. The Pay is not bad, I am used to making more. Low $30's/hr.
I just would feel bad leaving after receiving orientation..plus I dont have another job lined up yet. But I really want to get away....
Suggestions???
