Hello all! I'm a new RN (working on a medsurg unit for 2 months now). I completed my internship at the end of school of our hospital's ER and got a lot of experience with inserting IV's.... Experience that I feel like I am losing everyday on my unit because we have an IV team.
I truly enjoy blood draws and IV's, and this is an important skill that I do not want to lose. In fact, I'd rather expand on it and become better at it.
I realize that I am a brand new nurse but I know that this particular area is something I'd really like to improve on and I am wondering how to do so. How can I become certified? Or a member of IV team? I apologize if this sounds like a stupid question, but I really am lost here so any input would be helpful.
Thank you!!:)

If you are able you could start attempting IV starts and lab sticks on your pts. If you can't get it, give IV team a call, but then go in the room with them so you can watch and get pointers for next time. Really the only way you are going to get better is to practice

FIRST, ask the IV team.
Thank you!
