I took inorganic chem or "general chem" 2-3 summers ago, I can't remember... it was 6 weeks
I went to school M-Th from 1p-6p lecture and lab were combined. We had lecture for like 2.5 hours then we have a couple of 10 m breaks in lecture and then a 20 min break between lecture and lab.
NO LAB PARTNERS! it was awesome! I work better by myself so it worked for me.
The experiments were easy, I don't remember them but a lot of heating and boiling stuff.
Lab was always quick...so a lot of us got together (in between the lecture and lab rooms there was a computer lab), where we would do practice questions on whatever lab we were doing or do simple math-chem problems as well as balancing equations.
While we all did that, we did our lab reports after and since the lab was next door (our teacher was always in lab watching the "slower" students do their experiments) we got to ask her for help on the lab report questions
which were basically what chemical reaction happened during the experiment, any math-chem problems, some critical thinking questions etc...then we turned them in that day instead of turning them in the next day.
Tests were easy, off the notes as well as the book
IF you are self-motivated, and good at math, AND have good study skills (might want to develop those pretty soon, you WILL NEED them once you get into your program)
then I say go for it.
If you are not a "math-person" and are moderately motivated with no study skills then I say take it in a regular semester.
This fall I get to take a combined o-chem/ biochem class!
YAY! i
***BTW microbio is easy, but its different, no math or real chemistry involved (even tho chem is a pre req for micro at my school) but microbio is like learning a new language, cause you are doing like gen bio but from a prokaryotic POV. I say take microbio in a reg semester. and chem [if you are the above] in summer
thanks i enjoy chem more than microbio anyway. Im just nervous about the lab
lab is fun!
just follow the procedures and make sure you don't burn your self with fire or HCl lol!!!
The lab reports are simple and not as scary as everyone says they are.
Just know why you are doing the experiment and the lab report will be easy to fill out
