follow up to RNs inserting IJs/tunneled catheters

  1. The last posts I saw on this topic were dated 2008-2009. I brought this subject up in my small rural California hospital and my DON freaked. We have had a PICC program since 2009, but as someone else mentioned, this is not useful for renal patients.
I reviewed the Nurse Practice Act for my state and it sounds like this is doable as long as you get collaboration/training from physicians/administration and then write a policy & procedure to follow.
I do belong to INS and AVA, but I would like to hear from nurses who are either doing these procedures or work in a facility where RNs are doing them. I'm interested in how they got buy-in from their administrators and doctors.
