Our school did Kaplan and said it had a great successrate. I however didn't use any... All it does is tell you what to look for not actual things on the exam... here is what others told me about it and from my experience with the NCLEX.
While takeing the test if you read carefully and use critical thinking you'll be fine. Watch out for words the typical catches in questions like "exceptions" or "NOT".
Use your nurse logic. If you dont know the name of a drug look at it. Does it look or sound like something else you've seen. "statins" "cillians" we all know those come from the same class of drugs ...so if you don't recognize it on the test but you can regonize what class it MIGHT be from you can do an educated guess.
Know you ABC's. Remember always always Airway, breathing, circulation, etc. Always always if something is wrong you will go back to your ABC's... never will breathing be a bigger priority if there is no airway.
Yah the NCLEX is tough but it really is no different than any other test. Its designed to look for your reasoning. Everyone knows you cannot know every medication, nor condition out there. There will be things on there you don't know but if you stop take your time and think carefully you'll get the right answers and do fine
Good luck!

fyi, even though i didn't take a review course--
i went to a ncans convention in my state and there were many companies there, including kaplan. ati was there, and they claimed to have the highest pass rate of any company: 98%. again, this is just fyi! good luck in deciding. you'll do great!

My class chose to do a Hurst review and it was great! You can look for schedueled reviews in your area, they are usually open to anyone wanting to attend, we had several people come to ours that were not part of our class www.hurstreview.com I believe, they focus on applying your knowledge and how to "think NCLEXY" rather than just knowing the test itself as I've heard other reviews do. Good luck with whichever one you choose!

I felt that Kaplan was NOT worth the money...and if the hospital did not reinburse I would not have taken it...I found that the advice in the 2nd post was really what I used. Kaplan was just answering questions...which I'd been doing in my saunder's book.
Also, I felt that since my papers looked like right 60, and wrong 5....I would be ok on boards. do whatever you feel you need to to pass...after all, it's a small expense over a lifetime of earnings!

I tend to test good and English is my first language which I think makes a difference but I didn't do one for either my LPN or RN NCLEX. I figured I'd take a review class if I didn't pass the first time. :)
Where the heck did my edit option go?
Anyhoo I wanted to add that my above response was not meant to be flip if someone feels they need a review course just that I can remember our school practically terrifying everyone into signing up for one and again, imo, for most of us it was totally unnecessary.
