In renal disease, what is GPA?

What does GPA stand for?

How do MPO antibodies relate to GPA?

I tried WebMD, but couldn't find how MPO antibodies relates to kidney disease. Is it a general marker for organ damage?

The only "GPA" I could find was grade point average. That doesn't help.

A family member has this diagnosis, and is being treated as we speak. But extended family members are asking me questions, and I don't even know how to look it up. I need to know what GPA stands for.

Thanks.

Is it "glomerular polyanion"? That's my best google-dependent guess.

She has albuminuria and polyuria, so that fits. Thanks.

I'll talk to her mother before disseminating any information, but I wanted to at least do my homework first. Thanks.

Auto-immune problems run in that family, so this could be it, too.

Her mom said the MPO antibodies were "off the chart", and a major factor in diagnosing GPA.

I'll read up on both of these. Thanks.

Here you go:

ANCA associated diseases: (usually presented as rapidly progressiveglomerulonephritis)C-ANCA: associated with Wegener's granulomatosis. When test is positive, confirmedby demonstrating positive anti-protease 3 antibody (anti-PR3). Remission associatedwith loss of C-ANCA. Active disease associated with elevated ESR and disease activitycan be estimated by changes in ESR.P-ANCA: associated with microscopic polyangiitis. Also seen with crescenticglomerulonephritis (without evidence of systemic vasculitis). When test is positive, confirmed by demonstrating anti-myeloperoxidase antibody(anti-MPO). The remission isassociated with loss of P-ANCA
