In need of some guidance

Published

I just finished my first semester of university, and didn't do very well. I am registered for next semester right now, but am unsure if it is really what I am wanting. During this past semester I decided nursing would be an excellent career choice for me. I would love to eventually work as a nurse in a psychiatric facility of some sort. Before I decided to major in nursing I was thinking about veterinary school so I took pre-calculus, even though it is a higher math than required for nursing, thinking I would need to major in biology, and unfortunately made a D despite going to SI sessions, office hours, and math lab. I also made a C in history, however, I don't see that affecting me as much. I am concerned that with the grades I made that I will not be able to make high enough grades in other prereqs to be accepted into a program, much less manage not to flunk out. I am currently at Kennesaw State working towards a BSN. I was considering moving to another school and becoming an LPN and working a few years to see if nursing is really for me. Then,if so, going back to get my LPN to RN bridge. Is LPN school as hard to get in as RN and BSN programs? Is it possible to find a job as an LPN? I have heard a lot of places are no longer hiring LPNs and starting to even phase out RNs. Also, would it be postponing earning my degree in nursing to give this a try or should I just push through now?

edit: I would like to work in a profession that deals with directly helping others, but also makes decent money. If anyone has any suggestions as alternatives to nursing that would be fabulous as well. I'm just trying to explore my options.

You can do an associates degree program first if you want to pursue nursing if BSN programs are too competitive in your area. You'll need to take the required prereqs for 1-2 years. The associates program is 2 years. After that you can do RN to BSN.

You can do some research to see how competitive BSN programs are in your area. See if they require you to take an entrance exam.
