I've always been interested in psych but I followed my instructors "advice" and didn't go directly into the area when I graduated 4 years ago. I worked 1.5 in oncology and 1.5 in a clinical setting. I haven't worked the last year because of a cancer diagnosis and three subsequent surgeries. I'm now ready to get back to the real world and life is too short to not do what makes you happy.A dear friend of mine is a physician at a state psychiatric hospital and she has been very encouraging. She will act as a reference, which I think will be very helpful. My question to you is, aside from the meds and general concepts of psychiatric dx, what should I brush up on? I'm very comfortable with assessment and skills. While I dread explaining why I've taken a year off, I'm excited about my decision and I want to be as prepared as I possibly can. Thanks for your help! 0 Likes
