Hello there,

First of all, not to burst your bubble, but since you admitted that you are not good at writing, do you honestly believe you have a chance at scholarship? I mean, whoever determines the eligible candidates, are smart people and will only pick the exemplar papers. However, I will give you some advice on how to start and where to proceed from that point on.

1. Read the prompt carefully. Know exactly what you are being asked. Remember, the more is not always the better. Stay focused!

2. Identify key terms/parts of the prompt: detail, plans, continued education, and long-term goals. When you write something in detail, make sure to be specific; use your examples from your personal life. Plans entail an organized and time-specific method for accomplishing something. In your case is continued education. Continued education can be your BSN (if you are now going for ADN), Master's, or PhD. Once you establish what continued education path you want to go, you will set a few long-term goals. Be specific! Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years from now? How do you know? What will you do to get there? How will these specific long-term goals allow you to be successful?

3. Think of the paper length. Remember, the more is not always the better. You can concisely respond to the prompt in 3-4 medium length paragraphs, or 1-2 pages.

4. Edit and revise as needed. Ask your friends and/or family members to read your work. Ask for the feedback.

5. Proofread.

6. Put your soul into it. Writing is like cooking: if you do not put love into it, it will be blend.

I hope it helps!

I agree with the previous poster.

Also ... I advise you to start with the truth. What are your plans and goals? etc. Start there. Jot them down on paper and revise them until you have a good way to word them so that they both "sound good" and make sense to people who may not know a lot about nursing in particular. Maybe get a friend or family member to critique your wording of them.

As an editor, I would add: Give the finished first draft to somebody to proofread, preferably somebody with experience in writing or at least reading, like an English TA. (Yes, you'll have to write this more than once to make it polished enough to get you anywhere.)
