I just have a dumb question. Im a messy person. Im in nursing school right now and I am never organized with my notes, I always just put them in my book. My car is always messy. Anyways Im wondering if there are any messy nurses out there or do you have to be really neat and organized to be a good nurse? I know this is a dumb question but being messy is my weakness and if I have to change I will.

Having a messy car or house (assuming there are not critters living in the mess) may not be too bad, but that is totally different then being unorganized while performing the duties of a nurse. I cannot imagine getting through nursing school (clinicals) without having any organization skills.... That is why I have to ask... is this post a joke? Are you in nursing school? If so, I am guessing that you know what I am talking about.... If not, get through 3rd semester and tell me how you do/did without being organized because I WANT TO KNOW YOUR SECRET! I have gone insane because of how meticulous I have to be about everything!!!

I am not a nurse yet, but I am messy too. I think we can learn to be organized at work, that will be essential. But I also think my ability to be laid-back and flexible is what leads to my messiness. I think these are positive attributes as well and once we learn to organize what needs to be organized we will be fine.
I am really laid back and flexible. I sorta have an organized mess. I know I will be different when Im at work but the reason why I posted this was because my mom was like "your room is so messy how are you going to be a nurse?"
I keep all my powerpoints in my book and I put old ones on my desk. I guess Im organized in my own messy way:)

I am a very messy person, and I think I a am a very Good Nurse. For over 17years. Messy doesn't equate to bad. So don't let that hold you back, heck I think my mom may have said the same thing. I think they say it in frustartation because our rooms are always messy.

Your mother sounds like she needs to butt out. Don't let her disapproval of your room undermine your self confidence.

-Your co-workers will NOT appreciate or tolerate your mess in common work areas. There is nothing worse then co-workers leaving crap all over the desk, med carts and bedside....Expect that this will cause you a problem and start fixing it now.
