By far, this is the best LTC facility I've worked in (knock wood); I actually look forward to working, although I'm only there every other weekend. I can't believe how they staff; I work evenings and on my floor there is a resident census of 38 and I have 4-5 CNA's, 1 CMT, and myself. I have never in all my years of LTC had that many CNA's under me. It is a real blessing...and they all get along well for the most part and work together well. And when people do call in, instead of working short they have a pool they call from to get people in to cover! I'm just blown away! I have answered 2 call lights since I've been there and the aides that were working with me APOLOGIZED to me for not answering the lights quicker. Apparently, in this place I work, I don't have to answer the lights if I'm busy or whatever. I'm so not used to that. At the last facility I worked at before this one, I answered lights, put people to bed, helped give showers, etc, in addition to being a charge nurse.
Now I feel like I'm in heaven...knock wood of course!

I'm glad you're enjoying your new LTC job, Michelle. That's really good staffing--- better than most places, including my own. But I can't complain about my job either, I've got 3 aides and a CMA for 30 residents on evening shift, and they're a great team.....they've worked together for awhile, and luckily for me they've liked me from the get-go. Sure helps to have good teamwork, especially when you've just come from a place where they eat each other for breakfast.
Congrats to you!

And that was exactly the kind of place I did come from...all they knew how to do was complain/whine.
Thanks!

I love my job also. I hear so many nightmares about longterm care. Our facility holds 34. We always have two lpn's or an lpn and an rn, and we always have 5 cena's. We also have people mandated to stay over for every shift if someone calls off. The pay is really crappy 3-11 shift pays 14.68 an hour but I have a great job and enjoy almost all of my co-workers.:heartbeat:bowingpur

Great story:
Family comes to the entrance to town and asks an elderly fellow sitting there-if the neighborhood is a good place to live because they just bought a house there.
Elderly man asks how was your last place?
Family says terrific- great people, great schools etc.
Elderly man says - Here is great too. Family smiled and went to their new home.
Another family comes half hour later asks the same question of the same man and give the same question back,
Second Family says- Oh our last neighborhood was terrible- miserable neighbors, horrible schools etc
Elderly man says- we have the same , and the sad new family went on their way.
Elderly wife asks why give different answers- elderly man explains most towns are the same the first family see things as good and they will be good. The second sees things poorly and will experience the same in whatever town they are.
If things are good for you - I'm glad- but it probably is because you see the good in things and dwell on the positive ( an admirable trait) and I hope you always continue to see good.
Smile- life is good!!!
