greetings, i am an lpn with 4months experience, i work at an ltc right now and i love it! no shortage of work for me!!, i'm supposed to be perdiem, but the way i work its more like full time! because they are so short of nurses, anyway, they have a hopice unit and i'm ready to get some experience there and i love working on their rehab unit!, but i've been thinking:idea: of getting some med-surg experience!, by summer 2008, i will have 11 months experience and i need to know if there are any hospitals or agencies in the nyc area that have perdiem hospital positions for lpns?? thanks!!;)

Most hospitals are not hiring LPN's anymore because of their limited abilities.

The only way to find out is to apply. Some hospitals do hire LPNs, especially the city hospitals. HHC doesn't pay very well but you will get the Med/Surg experience that you want. I saw more openings over the summer but Woodhull has a listing for an LPN.

You could also try Montefiore Hospital if you are willing to travel to the Bronx. Under Allied Health there are ton of listings for LPNs good luck.

yes thankyou, i went to woodhull's open house over the summer but the position was for a psych unit, which i was willing to take but they wanted experience which at the time i had none. i applied at elmhurst hosp(hhc) but they only have full time positions:o, that would have been a great opportunity, they had openings in or, peds, etc.., i also applied to montefiore, they never got back to me! but i'm not so fond of traveling to the bronx anyway, seeing that i do live in qns, :uhoh3: but i will try allied health, thanks!!;)

I remembered in Nursing school that the only thing that LPN's in NY state were not allowed to do was hang blood. What other restrictions do they have?

I know a few hospitals have moved away from LPN's but do your research because there are quite a few that still does hire 'em and I am sure that through an agency you can definitely find work.

Well, I work at Brookdale Hospital Med/Surg unit where they've just hired three LPN's on my floor. I have been thought to insert IV's, do all the work that RN's do except hang blood. The only difference between me and an RN is pay and one more year of education.

I'm pretty sure I know them or have seen them...they did say Brookdale is a family organization. It's true I have never seen a per diem LPN on staff...everything is pretty much full/part time. Wish you lots of luck in your search.

I heard that it will be in January, sometime after new years, maybe a week or two after. I'm sure if you want to get in by then you have lots of connections, it would not be a problem. I'll be off orientation in a few weeks, so i'll be making room for you....lol. As soon as i get off I want to find a good agency where I can make some extra money for shopping...hey whats wrong with that. Keep me posted.
