Waubonsee Community College-- Starting in Fall

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hey everyone!! I just found out last week that I got accepted into Waubonsee Community College's nursing program!! I will be starting in October. Has anyone gone there? Any advice? What did your schedule look like? I am making myself crazy thinking about it. I have 3 kids that I will have to have in daycare. I wish I could know what my schedule will be now, but I won't know about the clinicals until after class starts. Any input is welcome!!!

Specializes in Oncology.

I Am Sure You Have Already Started The Program. Did You Just Finish Taking Medsurg I? I Just Graduated From That Program And I Can Tell You The School And Teachers Are Great. If You Pm Me I Will Send You Some Goodies That May Help You Along During This Program.

Hang In There You Will Make It.

clinicals at Waubonsee are 3 different shifts, morning, noon, and evenings- I actually just spoke with Dean Jess's assistant. Good LUCK!!

I have not started yet. I will start October 2008. Are students able to pick the time for clinicals that is best for their lives or are they handed out? Is there a limited amount of students in each clinical time? If the whole class wants afternoon, do some have to accept morning or evening? Are people with kids (or other special circumstances) given first pick? I have so many questions, but I have called twice and been told I can't find out anything until the first day of class. Thanks for the help!! :D

Hello,

I'm not that far ahead of you. I completely understand how difficult it is to manage kids and school schedules. In fact- this is what often scares the most about nursing school.

This was my schedule for the first two classes. Fund. T, F 8-10:50. Clinicals were on W, Th 6:30AM-1:00 PM. We had no choice for the clinical time. We all had the same time. Pharn. was on T 11-1.

For the second eight weeks class was on M,W 12-2:50. Clinical was on Th, F 6:30AM-1 PM. Again we had no choice. It seems that there is no choice until med-surg 1. For that section there is a night clinical offered. However, you may not get your first choice, as everyone ranks their prefrences and the instructor decides.

I'll never understand why they are so tight lipped about this stuff. I like to plan this stuff way ahead of time.

I hope this helps! Good Luck!!!!!:)

Hello!

I just FINALLY received my acceptance letter for March 2009 start. I too was wondering about clinicals. I have 2 toddlers in daycare and so it has made me crazy about when I may be scheduled for it. I am so nervous and excited, but it helps to know that there are people on here to help. They are very tight lipped about the program in general at Waubonsee but I am sure they have people asking daily about it. Now if I could just relax until March...

I'm also starting in March 09 and have a preschooler. At least I know I'm not the only one juggling school and children! And just knowing that 6:30-1 is a possibility for clinicals helsp somewhat. Otherwise, the schedule is identical to what the previous poster said, including clinical days of W/TH. Should be interesting...

Where to start?? Just wondering how many times did you have to apply to get into the nursing program? I just applied for the spring 2010 so wondering if I even have a chance.

I also applied for Spring 2010 but only expect to start in August 2010, as there is typically a full semester waitlist.

I finished the pre-req's in December 2008, applied for January/March 2009 and finally got started in August 2009. Enjoying the long holiday break after surviving the first 16 weeks!!!!!

So have you heard anything from Waubonsee. I emailed the dean and he said final voting is Monday 1/10. There are 13 spots left for March!

Wow.....13 spots, really!? I'm surprised that there are that many. Will keep my fingers crossed. Did Jess say how soon the letters would be sent out?
