May be coming back!!!

U.S.A. Illinois

Honestly we love it here, but my DH HATES his job. He truly misses his job at the University of Chicago. SSSSOOOOO i told him i'd research and look into moving back on a few conditions. 1 is that we live closer, because before we lived in Aurora/Naperville and the commute was too much for him, and 2 we rent a house NOT an apartment. :chuckle SOOO i was thinking if we lived within a 1/2 hour commute it would be ok. What suburbs should i look into? I'm thinking South burbs, what do you think? I've heard that Tinley Park is ok, and Oak Lawn...but honestly have not reasearched it much. We have 2 little boys and another on the way, so i want a relatively safe place to live, where i can find a decent house. Any suggestions???

Tinley Park is an okay suburb. Also around there that is nice is Orland Park and Homewood / Flossmoor areas. Getting to the U of C from the south side is much more convenient than from any other direction. Good Luck!

I've about got DH talked into coming back. lol Tinley Park/Orland Park seem to be more reasonable as far as real estate than the western suburbs. I wonder why that is??

Tinley Park is not an ok suburb. It is a LOT better than ok. Yes I do live there and wouldn't have chosen it if it was JUST ok. In fact it is a lot better than a lot of other south Chicago suburbs.

As far as the costs of housing in the south/southwest suburbs vs. the western suburbs it is all pretty much relative. The pay in the northern and western suburbs is generally more (not sure how true this is for hospitals) than the south/southwest burbs. But the south/southwest burbs do have some very nice areas as well as some to steer clear of.

If there's anything you want to know about this area, just let me know and I'll be happy to fill you in. I'm pretty much a lifelong resident of the southwest burbs so I may be (just a little) partial.

You must be joking! You're giving up Wyoming for Illinois!!!! Maybe it would be best to get a new husband instead!!! I wish you the best of luck and hope things will work out for you. :chuckle

LOL! Sometimes i think about it...... :p j/k. NO seriousely, we LOVE Wyoming, love it. But its a sparcely populated state with few hospitals, much less progressive hospitals. To work and live here is plain hard. And my DH is the kind of guy who HAS to be stimulated otherwise he gets bored and antsy. At least things are happening in Chicago ya know? lol

He's pretty much insistent on working at the U of C, so that hinges EVERYTHING on where we li ve. We've almost decided if we do take the plunge and move back, that we will try to buy a house. It wouldn't be til the end of this year, beginning of next if so. What about the southeast burbs? Any nice ones there, or should i just look south/south west? I'd love to live in the north burbs, but they seem really outta control as far as houseing goes. Tell me if i'm wrong tho.

Thanks for the input, i'm sure i'll have more questions!!!!!!

hello,

i live at bridgeview, it is by oak lawn. for me it is very good, nice, safe community to live. i go to moraine valley college for nursing now. there are good schools at oak lawn community, close to downtown, univ. of chicago.

i recommend that area.
