LVN wanting to move to DT Chitown

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

hey everyone!

I'm an LVN currently in Houston, TX. I have a year and a half experience right now and am almost finished with Excelsior RN. I grew up in Downers Grove, suburb of Chicago, moved to TX when I was 14. I have an urge to move back to Chicago....I'd like to live and work downtown. Can anyone tell me if there are opportunities for LVN's in chicago in hospitals? I have telemetry, CCU stepdown experience. What is the state's limitations on skills? Here we can do IV pushes, take cardiac drips, etc. Thanks!

Check with the Advocate campuses, esp. the South Suburbs. I don't know about the City, though.

Specializes in Maternal - Child Health.

Go to the IL Department of Professional Regulation's website to read about the scope of practice of LPNs in IL.

Good luck on your move!

Specializes in Med/Surg, Ortho.

You might want to check. You may find you want to pass your LVN in Texas first then move and license in ILL. Im not sure that Illinois recognizes Excelsior program to qualify for licensing.

Again, im not sure but you may want to check into it before you make the move.

You'll have to stay put in TX and work as an RN for 2 years before being eligible to endorse into IL.

Here's a link to the endorsement application that specifically mentions it's rules regarding EC grads:
