Looking for free CNA training in Chicago

Hello,

I am a college student who wants to pursue a career in nursing. I am still getting my pre-reqs for BSN programs, but I want to become a CNA so I have some experience. I volunteer in a hospital but I want to do more. I am financially not able to pay for the programs in community colleges, so I am looking for trainings given by nursing homes or hospitals for free or very low cost. If someone could help me by giving the name of the location and/or location where they know gives these programs, it would help me sooo much.

Most Nursing homes don't do CNA training anymore. However, you could try calling Manor Care and Resurrection Hospital. They may. My husband runs a home and because so many community college programs have CNA training, they decided to stop training. His home is used as a clinical site for two different CNA companies.

(Your community college may be able to cut up your tuition into 3 payments. I know it's still pretty expensive but it could be a possible option.)

I'm in the midst of pursuing a BA-MSN RN degree at Depaul and I have no healthcare experience outside of being an aesthetician at a laser-hair removal spa. I don't want to give up my fun and better paying job as a beauty expert while I'm going through the drudgery of school to work a CNA job. And, especially not have to take an expensive CNA course for a low paying job. But it seems like a necessary evil to get exposure to the clinical field.

I still have to finish up a never-ending and ever-changing list of pre-reqs to get into Depaul's program but it will be worth it to have a MSN and not another Bachelors. A student in the Depaul's program told me she wishes she had not taken a CNA course since training is still available on site. I've looked and inquired and it doesn't seem available. Then again, I didn't think I'd find a B.A.-MSN program, either. They seem very elusive. Let's keep looking for something and keep one another informed!

Any advisers out there, pls come forward. We need you!

Here is a link to the Basic CNA program at St Mary's of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago. Holy Family Medical Center also has one in Des Plaines.

You have to call for info. so I am not sure if it is free or not.

There is a program called WIA that pays for programs and I know that CNA is one of them. My friend is finishing up the Surgical Tech program and WIA paid for the entire program. Here is the link to one of the pages I was able to find with some CNA programs (I didn't know what zip code to put in so I just put in one for downtown Chicago). There should also be a phone number somewhere on the site.

The program consists of 94 hours of theory and 49 hours of clinical instruction. Satisfactory completion of the program leads to eligibility to take the state competency written evaluation for certification. A graduate of the program will be awarded a certificate of completion.

The 8 week program is currently being offered at Saint Mary of the Nazareth Hospital Center in downtown Chicago and Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines.

Hello! I'm new, and just clicking around... But I thougth this is a really important piece of information:

When I asked some schools about the WIA program, they said that it's a government grant of up to $6000, but you can only use it on one thing. You can't split it up. Which makes sense because it's the "Workforce Investment Act" and it's like the government is giving you x-amount of money to get a better career. So... If you're approved for $6000, then it's a waste of more than $5000 because you can't split the funds and use the leftovers. So... Choose wisely I guess because supposedly you can only receive this grant once.

Hey, I am an RN at the University of Chicago. We have many employees who join us for our tuition reimbursement for CNA, RN, and MSN programs. I am currently enrolled an MSN program and will graduate loan-free, but I know many secretaries, transport employees, etc. who work for UofC just to get their free license. You should check with convalesant or assisted living facilities.alot of them have classes that the facilitie teachs on the job. you work as a Nursing Assistant until you finish training and go thru certification exam
