Thanks for your response braun5925! Yea, I just spoke with someone from the admissions office and apparently my application is with the Chairperson for some strange reason so they are going to get back to me to let me know what is going on with my application.

I think I know what the problem is. My chemistry is kind of old. I took gen chem about 13 years ago and orgo was about 10 years ago so maybe they are trying to figure if they are going to make me retake my chemistry. I have decent stats. I graduated with a GPA of 3.4 with a degree in psychology and sociology. I have about a B average in prereqs. You see, I took A&P at COD with a REALLY HARD teacher and I'm actually still recovering from that which was last quarter. So I ended up getting B's there. On my GRE, I scored a 420 in verbal, a 610 in math and 5.0 in the writing so I don't think my stats are too bad overall.

Out of curiosity, where did you take your prereqs?

I congratulate you for getting in. THat's a real accomplishment! I'll let you know when I hear back from them. Hey maybe we'll be in the same class together! :)

yes! Maybe we will be in the same class! Out of curiousity, where did you get yoru bachelor's degree from?

I took most of my pre-req's from Madison, but I am taking Organic Chemistry right now at Harold Washington College.

Have you been talking to Christin at DePaul? She is very "short" on the phone, but in person, a real nice lady.

Interesting why the Dean is looking at it. Did you apply for fall admission?

Good luck helper! I doubt they'll make you take those courses again. I mean, honestly, how much of organic chem are we going to be using as a nurse? I not planning on going to pharmacy school!

I recieved my bachelors from Elmhurst college. Yes, I have been talking to Christine from depaul. she is very nice. Yes, I applied for fall admission. So we will see what happens. Hopefully, someone will call me back today.

Thanks again for responding!

ok, I have to vent. I STILL haven't heard from depaul. I spoke to christine today and she's going to email the chairperson to find out what is going on. This is driving me insane. I think I'm going to make plans to go somewhere else.

I was waitlisted at college of dupage, but who knows if I will get a spot for the fall. Maybe I should try another school altogether.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Hey Helper..I am sorry that you aren't getting any straight answers. I wouldnt' get discouraged yet, I've talked to a few other people who are also waiting to hear back from DePaul.

Hang in there and being 70 on the DuPage wait list, you will for sure have a spot there in the fall.

Thanks for the moral support! I really need it right now. I pm'd you braun!

Those people at DePaul have been frustrating me to no end. I just called them today asking them the status of my application and apparently my application is outstanding, whatever that means. The girl was supposed to call me back and never did.

So tell me, did you have all your prereqs done before you applied? What were your stats like if you don't mind me asking? I am in the process of taking microbiology so that may have been a set back for me.

If orientation starts in a few weeks then there's no way they will accept me for the fall. I am not impressed with their application procedures.

If they ever accept me, I may not even go there just because I feel they have been very unprofessional with me thus far.

Thanks for your input.

I applied to Depaul a year ago, and I was not impressed with their process. I got letters saying that they had none of my transcripts, and when I called, the admin person said, "Oh, wait! Here they are on my desk!" They wanted me to retake General Chemistry, since they said I had taken it too long ago, despite the fact that I had gotten an A in Organic Chemistry from COD just 2 months prior to the application. I got fed up with them, so I sent them an email saying that I was withdrawing my application. Later, someone from Graduate Admissions called me to find out why I was turning down the acceptance. I said I had never gotten accepted, as far as I knew.

So, maybe the program is better once you start, but the disorganization is pretty amazing. I decided to go to Rush, and I am in my 3rd quarter of 7 quarters. They are very organized, and it's a good program. I have a few gripes, but who doesn't?

Thanks for your response. I've heard from a few others about the admission process being a bit disorganized, personally, I had no problems.

I am going with the program, I guess as long as I pass the NCLEX, it's well worth it!

Best of luck to you at Rush...good decision to go the 7 quarter route, from what I've heard....

Hey oldiebutgoodie,

That's very interesting with respect to your experiences with DePaul. It makes me wonder why they are so disorganized. I wonder how it will be when we are in the program. I was actually at Depaul today and met a nursing student who is just about to finish the program. I asked her how it was and she said she liked it and that it was a lot of work. She said she will go directly into the NP program.

The fact that they have an NP route makes this program so attractive. It's a shorter route than getting an ADN or BSN and then going to more years for the master's. I wish more schools in IL had this program. NP's do fairly well, salary wise and many opportunities are there. I actually work with a PNP in a large pediatric office and she said that I should do NP program. She even said she would pre-cept me.

I guess we all have to weigh what we will put up with in order to achieve our goals. I am glad you are enjoying Rush's program.

It's probably just the administrative stuff that is disorganized. Rush works out better for me location-wise, too, because I live in the western burbs. However, I may want to do an MSN and NP like you, so you will certainly be saving time!!

These nursing programs are sure a lot more work than I expected. I have an MS in Computer Science, and I am busting my butt in Rush's program!!

Good luck with Depaul!

No, they don't have an accelerated bachelor's program for non-nurses, just the graduate program.
