IL licensure by endorsement

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

I just spoke with the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation with questions regarding licensure by endorsement, and thought I would post the info here in case it is of use to others.

(I spent 1.5 hours redialing to get past the busy tone, and then spent 20 minutes on hold. But the woman who answered was friendly and helpful.)

I requested the fingerprint card, and she took down my address and said these requests are processed pretty quickly.

Typical waiting periods, once all the paperwork has arrived in their office:

4-6 weeks for a temporary permit

8-10 weeks for a permanent license

(She said that if there are any aspects of the application requiring further investigation it will add at least three weeks to the process.)

As of today (6/20) the area that handles the RN licenses is working on files from June 2nd. So they are 18 days behind.

I am in California, and I mentioned to her that the BRN here sends the form directly to Illinois instead of returning it to me, and she said that is not a problem.

Well thank u anyway

I have a nevada license too and applied for Illinois. It took me a few months but I had no issues getting an Illinois license. The hardest part was getting them to send me a fingerprint card. They mail you information on what forms you may be missing. Once I sent the incomplete forms in I got approved pretty quickly. Mine took a while because of I procrastinated on the fingerprinting.

Thanks. Do i need to ask the fingerprint cards from them? Or do i just go to the approved fingerprint service centers?

You have to call 217-782-8556 to request a fingerprint card. The line is busy a lot but keep calling until you get someone. I got the fingerprint card by mail and then went to Fingerprint Pros. If u want lives scan u can only use the ones on the list that Illinois provides you with but they are all in Illinois which does you know good unless you are there. The longest part of the process is getting the fingerprint card and getting your school to fill out the education form. Hope this helps :)

Thank you so much! This information really answered my concern. I am also applying for license by endorsement to Illinois. I am an NCLEX-RN passer State of Florida. I requested for an exam verification a month ago, and when I emailed the Florida BON, they told me that the form was sent directly to the Illinois BON. I am trying to contact the Illinois BON, but the number seems not working. I cannot pass my application packet because of that lacking verification form. But now, that I have the answer, I can submit my application. Thank you.

Thank you for the info! I am also planning on going from a CA license to IL. I am looking at all the required forms for endorsement now, How did you go about sending/contacting someone at the CA BRN to have them file the form? I had to deal with an issue with the BRN last month and I found that getting results can be a bit difficult...

TIA
