Can someone PLEASE give me some details on what the housing is like at Kayenta and Chinle??? These are the two sites I am looking at and where my apps are progressing the most
I am married with a 20 month old, so what I consider adequate housing may differ than if I were still single and in my 20's
Also, I have found many posts stating housing is often full....what are options then f
or staff if the staff housing is full? Is it realistic to find something relatively nearby?? Does IHS have assistance for locating housing for staff if none is available on site???
A big THANK YOU in advance for any info!

I sure wish someone with some first hand experience would reply to you. I'm wondering the same thing. I'd be interested in Chinle.
I called the nurse recruiter there and she said there is no housing other than the on-reservation housing for hospital employees. She said they always try to leave vacancies for staff and sometimes you just have to wait for them to be cleaned up from the last tenant. Her words were "The next closest place to live is 3-1/2 hours away".
I found a PDF doc online--don't even know how I found it or what it was dated but it talked about 4 BR apts for $250/month for Chinle gov't housing. It's hard to believe they could be that cheap but that would be pretty cool, eh?
Anyone out there have any recent experience with Chinle, AZ?

The options are limited in both places. Kayenta and Chinle both have low cost Govt housing onsite but they are typically full and have a waiting list (you should be able to call around and ask about the waiting list). The alternatives in Chinle are either the Thunderbird Lodge or Best Western both expensive alternatives. There is a mobile home park in Kayenta that has rentals available from time to time but it is pretty rough going.
Not sure what part of the country you are in but I would try to get out there for a site visit or at least try to start out as a traveler so you can check it out before diving into the deep end.
