If you fail out of nursing school..is it easy to apply to another?

Published

Say you make it to the nursing program but you flunk out. What are your chances that another nursing school will accept you? and is there a certain number of times that you can flunk out and transfer to another??

It is easy to apply to another program, getting accepted is a different matter. With the glut of qualified nursing students these days, schools for the most part are more selective about who they let enter. In my day, my school said that people in this category could only gain entry if there were available empty seats, and when are there going to be available empty seats when you have 5 or 6 highly qualified applicants for each seat?

In my area if you fail out you may have a chance at one of the community colleges, but even then it is very hard to get in. There is such a demand for slots they have to be selective, and often times they see someone who has failed as someone who had there chance already.

I have been told that colleges are likely to accept new applicants over re-admissions. It all really depends on the number of seats available and how competitive the program is. I also think it depends as to when you failed out. If you failed out at the beginning of the program, I think it would be very hard to be re-admitted. If it was closer to the end(ex. if you failed Peds), I think you'd have a better shot because there would be more seats available, but it would still be pretty tough either way.
