I recently accepted an offer into the nursing program for 2016. After attending the info session, I realize it would be ideal for me to start next semester. I am worried if I now decline and aoolh next semester, they may hold it against me or think I am flaky. But due to unforeseen sitter issues and I financial issues, I feel I wouldn't be successful this semester.
Has anyone ever done this and got in? Its such a competitive program I'd HATE to decline, especially after I JUST accepted but I'd hate to accept and have to drop out or not do well. Especially when I need only a few months to get everything straight.

Your best bet would be to speak with one of the nursing admissions counselors to find out exactly how that works at your school. At my school, supposedly, there is a separate person who goes through the applications to give the points. Once the points have been identified, the packets go in front of the review board, and all they see are the points, no names.
If that's the case there, then I can't see anything to worry about. Besides, these men and women are not only professionals, they are people. They are probably very capable of understanding and appreciating when someone identifies that they may not be quite ready. That's not a bad thing. It's a responsible thing in my opinion.
Now, I would only be worried based on the strength of your packet. I do know some cycles are more competitive than others. This would be another great question for the admissions counselor. I knew that my packet was a little weak because I had a C in one of my science pre-reqs. My admissions counselor told me which were the hardest semesters to compete in, and which weren't.
Don't think that it's a one shot and that's it. If you truly feel not ready, take the time you need. I'd rather start later than fail out.
Good luck!

I'm doing the same I had gotten in for fall 2015 and decided that I wanted to complete all of the other required classes before starting Nursing classes. When I went in to admissions there I explained that I wanted to withdraw from nursing and stay in the liberal arts program, they said it was fine and plans change. Granted I haven't found out if I'll be excepted for next year yet and I'm a little worried that there may be more competition and I'll be regretting it. But its a better option then failing due to being overwhelmed. I'm hoping I'll get accepted during early admission and I will only have to wait until Jan to find out instead of March.
Thanks you'll! I did talk to them and they said I could apply next semester. Fall does generally have more Applicants than spring but luckily, everything seems to be falling in place with paying for classes and I found a new sitter so I can start! But you'll as right, they seem to understand that things do happen.
I think the applicant pool is generally the same. And l know here, you can reapply as many times as you want if you don't get in (as long as you meet the basic qualifications). Good luck to you!
