And that I'm one of the good ones who truly care about the people whom I work with/for. My lead MA brought these for me this morning, and said "Thank you for all you've done for us!”

Oh, those are lovely! I don't think all managers suck, I've had some real good ones: kind, organized, knowledgeable, energetic, engaged with their staff. I think they get burned out easily though, when their supervisors pressure them to do less with more, while trying to support their staff.
Congratulations!

What a nice gesture. Managers probably aren't appreciated much. Managers are got between upper management demands and floor staff demands. They have to deal with complaints from patients, they have to deal with unruly staff that decide to just not show up. They have to make unpopular assignments, they have to tell their staff no. It's a miserable job that I would never take despite being offered many times.
I've been lucky to always work with good managers that even when they say "I'm sorry you're short staffed and we have to deal with it" I know they do care about us and advocate for us.
One time in my entire career did I work briefly with a manager that while seemed to be a staff advocate was kind of lazy. She lived far away and had young children, so she was often late, often left early, wasn't around much and got herself fired.

We had the best one ever and she left us. That darn work/life balance (new baby). Happy for her, but boy do we miss her.

That says it all. A good manager is one of the most important things at any job.
