hey guys!
i am currently in school for my BSN and i work at my local hospital. i always knew i want to work with trauma patients or in the ICU now after working in the hospital and seeing everything first hand i realized that i know the ICU is where i want to be i LOVE it. i still have a few more years until i get my BSN finished but in the mean time i would love to have some books to read about ICU nursing. i found www.icufaqs.org from this site and its great i love reading the stuff on that website its very clear and i could read it all day but i was wondering if there were any other good reads out there. i heard about a book from kathy white about critical care nursing, do any of you have it and if so what do you think of it?
thanks for all your help everyone!

Without a doubt, one of the most readable, yet informative is: Notes on ICU Nursing: Critical Care FAQ Files From the MICU
It is written by Mark Hammerschmidt and Jayne Mulholland and can be ordered on icufaqs.org. The website has all the FAQ files, also.
Oops!! Sorry, I didn't read your post carefully!! I'm sure you already know about their book!!
And, BTW, the Fast Facts series by Kathy White is good, and I got the iPhone version, but I find that I never refer to it.

In the upper right hand corner of this page, you'll find a link for "Books for Nurses". Click there, type in "Critical Care Nursing" in the search field... you'll be AMAZED at the number of books you'll find. To get a good overview, I'd start with the "Made Incredibly Easy" book, and then proceed from there.
Much luck in your studies, and congratulations!

Typically I go to Half priced books and see what's there. I got lucky and found The ICU Book and was able to lower the price to 45 $. The book is really thick and it covers so many different topics. For a comprehensive in depth of ICU I would try that and it covers so many topics. This is my FAVORITE book. I LOVE it!
I'm Going to buy The ICU Faqs book and AACN essential of critical care nursing. I have found these 3 books to be highly recommended by nurses especially AACN. I often stop by half priced books and get cheap critical care books. i got a book on case studies and I love it. Only 6 bucks. U'll be surprised what books show up there.

I bought the notes on ICU nursing book, it is very helpful and very clear about what is being said.....doesn't read like a text book ....so it gets you out of that school book feeling....although I have to say being a new ICU nurse and actually being there to experience what I am reading go hand in hand......
hope this helps.

Critical Care Nursing Made Incredibly Easy (they just came out with another edition, I believe)
Manual of Critical Care Nursing is excellent. Clear, concise, and includes nursing diagnoses with interventions.
Critical Care Nursing: A Holistic Approach (textbook).

Critical Care Nursing by Sole, Klein & Moseley is the book I had to use when I took critical care nursing this summer.
