ICU nurse moving to Charlotte NC wanting to switch specialties, opinions please!

Hey everyone,

Looking for some opinions and advice please!

I've been an ICU nurse for just over five years and this past year have really been getting the itch to change specialties. My husband and I will be moving to Charlotte, NC in March and I feel it would be a good opportunity to make the change.

I have been researching job boards and have seen many opportunities for LDRP nurse positions and some mother baby units. Any opinions on which would be a smoother transition? Or what to expect with the learning curve of a new unit like this? Or even a better picture of what each unit involves?

Im hoping with a switch to this specialty I may see more "happy beginnings" mixed in if that makes sense. As well as perhaps save my body a little bit, as it's been feeling the physical burnt out lately. I will be starting my FNP program next year as well and thought being more diverse in my experiences would be beneficial.

Thank you to to anyone who responds!

I work L&D in charlotte. Mother baby would probably be boring-ish to be honest for an ICU nurse. Our training takes about 6 months and its a huge change, but its also so amazing to work there! I work at cmc main and we do LDR... then postpartum is a separate unit. My advice is to just apply. I participate in interviews and we like ICU experience!

With all the training involved do they hire into PT positions or prefer people to start off full time?

I will probably be moving between March-July to Concord. Any suggestion around what point to start applying? I don't want to be too early to where the employers

Thank you for your advice! :)
