I have 6 years experience in a variety of ICU settings. I am thinking of trying something different as I am in a new area and think it would be a good opportunity . I have a soft spot for esrd patients.
I have an interview set up for both an acute and chronic dialysis position.
Has anyone else left ICU for dialysis. Did you love it or hate it. Pros and cons of each?
Also, I would preferably still work PRN at a hospital one or twice a month so that I don't lose my ICU skills and certification. Would this work?
Thanks!

I know people that have ended up in dialysis from a number of positions and many of them are quite happy there!
I know that back in nursing school they brought nurses in recovery in for our last semester. One was a former ICU nurse who ended up with a substance abuse problem and the only option for her was dialysis. She said she loves it and for her it was a great way to get out of a stressful position that literally might have killed her. She enjoys the environment where she can get to know her patients, although very few of them graduate off dialysis so it can be sad at times.
And of course I would think the per diem ICU position would be fine, our hospital requires two shifts a month for per diems. Good luck with your plans!
