I want to move out of state.

Published

I want to leave Iowa, I don't want to live here anymore I was going to school for nursing at a local community college but at the rate I'm going it probably going to be another 2 or 3 years and I don't want to wait that long. I'm looking at moving to Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco, or Austin. Anyone living in those areas and can give some good advice on schools? Anyone go out of state to go to school? Cause I'm ready I need to spread my wings and leave the nest.

i don't live in any of those states hell i don't even live in your country, but i'm sure the internet will suffice in helping you to find good colleges in the states you mentioned. good luck. :)

Ackeem.

Before you move, check out residency requirements for a couple of the schools that are possibilities, even if you just choose a random community college from each location. Some schools only require you to be a resident for 1 year to get in-state/in-county tuition while others require as much as 3-years (though that seems to be infrequent and typically at highly sought-after universities). If you move there and start attending classes immediately, how long until they will consider you a resident rather than an out-of-state student "visitor"?

Non-resident tuition can set you back a pretty penny (any where from 50% more expensive to double-or triple the cost of resident).

Why so impatient? Other than the fact that people want things, yesterday. I'd continue to go to school and finish whatever requirements that are needed for a BSN, while trying to get into nursing school. That is what I would do. Because, who is to say it won't be any different somewhere else. Moving is not always the best solution. It costs money, you may not know anyone who lives there, you won't know the city/town unless you've been there, you'd have to pay out-of-state tuition rates unless you fulfill that requirement, where will you live, will you need to work. There are alot of things to think about. I don't live in those areas so I can't help you with that.

It is extremely difficult to get into nursing school in Atlanta. There's usually a waiting list and your grades have to be up there. Just something for you to consider. Different areas are easier to get into school than others.

I recently moved from San Francisco. It's one of the best cities in the world and I absolutely love it, buuuut, just make sure you bring your checkbook. If you're not used to the cost of living there, it might shock you out of the city before your nursing journey even begins. (a studio apartment there goes for around 1,300/month) There are only a few nursing programs in the Bay area, and they're all very competitive. Not trying to be discouraging, just honest. No matter what you choose, if you work hard enough, you can make it happen. Good Luck!

Thanks guys I'm looking for blunt honesty I'm just feeling kind of lost at the moment I don't know if it's depression or just generalize anxiety and apathy but either way I'm just looking for direction. Guess I'll just stay right here and focus on school were I'm at...gotta bring my grades up though from the sounds of it.
