Hi, all.
I am just weeks away from entering full-bore nursing school. I want, more than anything, to work in an ER.
Not being at all naive about whatever I have to do to work and gain experience- I am wondering what advice, if any, I can get here about helping secure my path to work in the ER.
Thank you in advance!

Apply for a job in the ER now. Work during school and you will likely be highly considered when you graduate. Show them a good work ethic and a desire to learn and you may just put yourself in a really good position.

Absolutely. I have a classmate with a very strong desire to work in the ER so she took a job as a CNA in the ER when she saw it come up at the hospital where she worked. I think she beat out other candidates because she was so passionate. Though most new grad jobs are going to be in med-surg or critical care, I think she will be on a great path if she shows her brains and work-ethic now. Let your clinical instructor know that if the opportunity comes up in the ER, you would love to do a rotation. It may take several months before you'll be allowed to stray from the med-surg floor. Practice things like catheter insertion because that will likely come up in the ER. Good luck!!
