Hello everyone! I took the NCLEX-PN on Oct 11, 2013 here in Northern Cali. The test stopped after question 106 and it took me about 2hrs and 15mins. I went to check the PVT 3 hrs after the exam and it gave me the "good pop-up" !! Although I was so excited to see the good pop up, I still feel very anxious because Cali does not participate in the Quick results.
I studied for about 3 months and used Saunders 4th edition, Exam Cram-PN and Kaplan 2012-2013.
I first read the Kaplan book cover to cover. It helped me with test taking strategies (ABCs, data collection vs implementation, Maslows, etc)
The Exam Cram book helped me a lot in terms of nursing content.
Saunders helped me reinforce everything I have learned. I took the 75 item assessment test the first time and scored abt 52%. It will show you which area you need improvement. It has about 3,000 + questions and you can select different system topics (respiratory, cardiovascular, OB, etc). What I like about is that it gives you the rationale and the test strategy on how to select the correct answer. I scored about 80% the week of my exam.
Also, if possible, download the NCLEX Web tutorial from Pearson vue website. So you can familiarize yourself on how the actual screen and test format looks like. This might help relieve some of the anxiety and also saves time when you get in there as you already went through it.
I'm not sure if I passed or not but will definitely let you guys know the outcome.
I have 2 questions though:
1) I know that waiting time is long in Cali but for those of you who recently took the exam and have actually received their license, can you please give a timeframe on how long it takes from the time you took the exam and when you actually got your license card?
2) Once I get my "pass" letter (God-willing), I plan to drive to Sacramento and pay them in person with cash so they won't have to process the check or money order. Does this expedite the process? Anyone have done this method recently?
Thank you so much for listening and I look forward to your responses! Please let me know if you have any questions.
Goodluck to all taking the test!

we are on the same boat. I took nclex pn too on oct 11 got the good pop up and waiting for the letter. I called the bvnpt today and the person i talked to said they are working on sept 26 test results. hopefully we can get our letter next week or in 2 weeks. The waiting game is torturing.
Thanks for the update! Patience is a virtue.. Just hang in there.. I'm taking some classes so hopefully it'll keep me busy.
From what I have researched so far it takes about average 3-4wks for the results to be received in the mail. But receiving your actual license is another story. How about you, how fast did you receive your license? What state are you from?
what classes are you taking now? im thinking of taking some too.
I'm taking human physio and sociology. The RN program that I'm trying to apply to required me to retake physiology. They said that the LVN physio does not count because it has to be 5 units including lab. That's fine with me. You learn more and will actually help me have a better A&P knowledge. How about you?

I wonder why Cali makes you wait so long. It sounds like you did well well anyway nurse :-)

Thanks joyfullpn! I really appreciate the compliments!
Yes, sad but true. They said it's all about budget and that bvnpt is short staffed. It's hard to make plans when you're in a limbo. All I can do is wait and wait..

I am taking my nclex soon and I am also using my green saunders book, exam cram practice questions, and I am waiting on the Kaplan book to get to the library so that I am able to use that as well. I use ati for my studying as well and so far so good.
I heard about PDA by Lacharity but didn't get the chance to read the book. Maybe if you have time you can go to your local Barnes & Nobles and check it out. Goodluck with your test!
It's the 3rd week and I haven't received the results. Have you heard anything from bvnpt? I called them but I keep getting disconnected due to the high volume of calls.
Hopefully we get the letter by end of next week.
Goodluck to us!
