I am still a 5th semester nursing student in my BSN program. And today I was just wondering how much money I will make when I graduate. Then the following is the math I did in my tiny brain:
40 hrs* 20 dollars/hr*4weeks*12months=38,500 dollars/year!!!!!
Am I getting it right?????
I think I may need to request a food stamp when I graduate...... my engineering friend can make double when he graduates:uhoh3:
Hope someone can tell me my calculation is WRONG~otherwise, :angryfire I don't know. I think I am still falling love with nursing:heartbeat

i don't think you'll need food stamps. hopefully the ecomony will get better and you won't need any goverment assitance. i don't even think you will need to live under a bridge. so don't pick out which shopping cart you would like to push around town just yet... lol.
you will get a job , and you won't be rich , but you will be okay. i send you hugs !!

Many jobs don't start at that amount...I taught before I went to nursing school and made $18,700 my first year. you will make it - just plan and budget!

Not to mention the occasional OT, shift diff, etc.
I highly doubt an engineer can make double! When I first got out of the USAF, my first civilian engineering job was $28,900. (Of course that was in 1987) I noticed that if I had stayed in that field, I would be over $90K now....but that would be with 25 yrs experience not a "freshout" (of college).

If you can't feed yourself on $20.00 shame on you.
Although, I know you're venting and aren't seriously going to get food stamps. It doesn't seem to go far these days, but you can make more working nights and weekends. :)

my friend is in chemical engineering major and he will graduate this May. He just got one job offer recently and the salary is 65,000!!! that's around 2 times as what a new grad nurse can make. well, now I am not that much jealous of him. lol. Thanks for everyone's kind and helpful responses.
I just love people on this website sooooo muchhhhhh.
Well, a new chemical engineer has a BS degree. A grad nurse makes more than half of that 65K...and that is with an associates degree. (That is what sux about the BSN.... not a lot more than the ASN pay!) Depending upon where you live, you can earn 65K+ as a grad nurse, so ya kinda have to qualify the statement about the engineers....and their salaries do not vary as much with COL...trust me, I have lived in some high cost areas...
My hubby's ex-W earned $55K her first year as an RN (I saw the w-2) working 26 hrs/week and that was in Greenville, SC!! My brother is in his 3rd year after earning his ASN/RN....he earned $125K last year in Manhattan. Don't think either would get you food stamps!

Err where exactly do you live that you can't live off that? 38k isn't rich but it certainly isn't chump change.

I graduated 6 months ago and have never been more financially stable than I am right now. I am actually able to pay my bills, pay rent, buy a few little extras, and even pay for my BSN tuition. I'm sure if you are in school you are all ready living on a budget. Nursing isn't an upper class job, but I'm happy.
