I think I made terrible mistake.

I got offer for RN position from hospital, I told them I accept the offer but I have to give 2 weeks notice at my current job and then HR told me that she is going to put my resume on hold. I am confused, I desperately want this job. Does it mean that I lost this offer? What I can to do?

I don't think you did anything wrong, in fact I think there is something wrong with the new hospital for being this way, IMO it's unprofessional of them.It's normal procedure in a professional environment to give at least 2 weeks notice (my job is 4 weeks) and I'm sure the new hospital would want the same. To me it's a red flag that they won't let you do the right thing and I would think twice about working there. If there's one piece of advice you ever listen to, NEVER BURN YOUR BRIDGES. Don't leave your first job without proper notice and don't bad mouth a job you left because nursing is a small world.Sometimes things don't work out the way we want them to but in the end it was for the best. You are asking for what's standard and nothing unreasonable, please don't blame yourself.

Thank you. I am still blaming myself. I am looking for a job for 6 month already, it was my first interview and first offer. I understand that probably I made right decision, I am in good relationship with coworkers and manager at my current job, but again I am afraid of loosing this only one chance to work as a nurse. Thank you for your help. I will try to stay positive.

I know it must be frustrating with the current job market the way it is, but honestly its better to not take this job if the working environment/management is bad then to wait for something better comes along.

Think about it for a minute. The job market for new grads is very tough these days, people are not getting jobs and this employer is really desperate for a nurse with no experience to start?? This place sounds shady, the fact that they can't even wait 2 stinkin' weeks for you to give notice?? They must be desperate then, probably laid people off or people quitting left and right and need to fill in the position.

You may think I'm nuts but I always believe that sometimes things that don't work out initially and work out better for me later are because God or my grandparents who passed were watching over me and protecting me from a bad situation. I bet something better will come along and you will find out later that you dodged a bullet.

When I graduated, we all had jobs prior to graduating because they were hiring like crazy, but everyone could only get night positions because thats what new grads get. One girl got days and we soon figured out why. She was on a vent floor with 7 patients and no CNA's!! She said she cried every day for the 6 months she was there and left after 6 months. We thought something was weird that a new grad was offered a day position right out of school but she learned the hard way. Just think you could have wound up in something like this and you didn't.
