I am a tad bit nervous

Published

I am 30 years old and have just moved to Valdosta Georgia due to Hurricane katrina. I have always wanted to become a nurse. Tomorrow I meet with a Nursing Advisor to discuss the curriculum and some other things About A.B.A.C.'s Nursing program. I believe I can do it. However, I am a mother of three and married. I have heard that Nursing school is extremely hard. Does anyone have any advice and is it possible to finish this two year program?:uhoh3:

nursing school is very hard, but with determination and the commitment to learn the material rather than memorize it, it is a very achievable goal. i went to school with many people that were in their 30's (some in their 40's and early 50's), and many were single/married with kids, and they were able to do as well as those of us who had no children.

good luck!!!

Yes, it is very do able. Just know going in that, it WILL take time away from your family sometimes. I had 2 kids when I went through nsg school... actually more of us did then not....It requires alot of studying, and alot of preparation the night before you have clinical......and you wont have time to do most of the things you did before entering school... Attendance policies at most nsg programs are strict, they dont tend to tolerate lateness (not implying you would have a problem with either of these!!!) And they tend to have higher expectations of you than most programs would. But, if you want it, and are willing to accept and roll with these things.... its not that bad. And yes, YOU CAN do it. Good Luck.... keep us posted.......let us know what you thought after the meeting!!!!

I didn't do it with kids, but my gf was in with me and she worked FULL TIME, went to school FULL TIME, and had 2 teenage boys!! I don't know how she did it but she did a very good job.

I will say though that I went to a 2 year program and it took a lot longer than 2 years. Just the clinical portion was almost 2 years. Just something to ask them about.

Good luck

Thankyou Guys for responding. I am on my way to the meeting in 30 minutes. I will certaintly update you on what happened. My next feat is another car. I will trust God for that.

Without a doubt, it can be done. I began my nurisng program when I was 29 and have two daughters. At the time they were 7 and 2. I managed quite nicely and made it out with nearly straight A's. (Got 2 B's the entire two years.) It took a lot of determination and discipline, but I actually think I was more successful because of my age and the fact that I had been raising kids. If I had tried nursing school right out of high school, I never would have made it. I simply did not have the discipline at that time. By the time I was 29 with two kids, I was very aware of sleep deprivation, multi-tasking, and being super-efficient. It was something motherhood taught me well. GO FOR IT!

I'm in the same boat as you are. I had started school about 8 years ago, for nursing, but then got pregnant and decided to put it off because I knew I wanted to be a stay at home Mom. Now 2 kids later, 6yr old and 3 yr old, I am getting ready to start back. I have been accepted into a part time evening weekend program which will take me 3 years to complete.

I too am worried about how everything will go for me with studying, finding babysitters and still finding time to be a good Mommy and wife. I just know that whatever it takes that it will be worth it and I will do it.

Best of luck to you :)

evbella we are going to make it!!!! This will be fairly lenghthy so bare with me. I am currently atending a College that does not offer an R.N. program. The school I am inquiring about is 45 minutes away. There are five classes I need to take before I can apply to the Nursing school. I am expecting to start Nursing school in the Fall. They do not accept any credits from the school I am currently attending. Tomorrow I am going to look into another College that does offer those classes. They take 50 students and it is based on your G.P.A. The College that offers the classes I need starts their classes March 13. The school I am attending does not end until March 16.

I am determined........... I will keep you posted.

OH YAY FOR YOU!!!! You can do this! Stay determined! Keep us posted! :clown:
