I stopped at 85 nclex-pn. What are my chances?

Published

I stopped at 85 for my nclex-pn 02-19-09 in oakland ca. How and when will i get the result? I had 8 check all that apply, 1 calculation, 2 lab values, 2 where you drag your answers, 7 medications and the rest are psychiatric nursing questions. I'm so nervous and afraid to find out the result. Is it true that if i remember the last question and if im positive that my answer was correct. Does that mean i passed the test?

Please help!!!

Hi !

The answer to your q's. First off, I took mine on 2/9, in Sac. and it cutoff around 78. Just like you I am wondering the same things. That being said I saw some "staffers" here at allnurses, who are very knowledgable answer these same q's for those people and it seems it doesn't matter the stopped # q's, or the "last" or any of that. The test is CAT or in other words adapted to the test taker. Which means simply that based on your previous answer it will ask a question with your ability to answer it already calculated. In other words it "knows" your ability by the previous answer. Regarding how long it takes (keeping in mind that the state has furloughed everybody every other Friday and given Presiden't Day holidays, they (BON) HAVE ONLY BEEN AT WORK 3 DAYS IN A GIVEN WEEK! They are supposed to mail you something within 8 weeks from the date of exam. But, this could take longer......? I would just try and look for work since they are saying there aren't many if any jobs for new grads. Sorry for all us new grads:( :banghead:

I think your chances are very good! Hope you find out quickly!

It is hard to say!

You still can fail if your last question was #75!

My experience is that if you answered all the hard questions, you had a better chance! Based on the fact that if you gave the correct answers to the easy questions then the computer will increase the level of difficulty until you had no ideas what you were facing.

But if you answered all the relative easy questions, what this meant is that you kept giving the wrong answers and this is the reason why the computer kept on giving you the easy ones because the level of difficulty is decreasing because of the wrong answers you had.

I agree with lilyblue. Chance is very high to pass. Wish you all the best. But sometimes if you do really horrible, it closes at 85 too.

Congratulations on taking the test and wishing you good luck.

For the PN test to stop at 85 you would have had to get them all right or all wrong. If you feel confident that you got several answers correct you passed.

85 sounds like a dream...... when i took my lpn board in 1998, the computer shut off at 74. wanna talk about panic...... minuimum at that time was suppose to be 85 . i even called and spoke to my instructors. they agreed it was strange. my nurse manager at the time was also calling on my behalf...... 3 weeks later i walk into work at 10pm half the residents are still up and standing in my space at the desk....started to shoo them off to where they belong..... behind them was a nice cake and balloons.... the residents had all signed the card..... was wonderful..... try not to stress.....more often than not...low question count means high score.... by they way.... i was told i only missed 3-4 questions on the test. it will be ok

The number of questions doesn't matter as far as pass rate. I got 85 and it took 5 weeks for me to get my results. Other people in my class got the max at 205 and passed while others got 95 and passed. I don't know if anyone failed yet. I think 75% of my class has taken the test. So far everyone who's taken the test after me has gotten their results in 12 DAYS....not business days, actual calendar days. I think it's going to be slowing up pretty soon though especially with the state furloughs out here in CA.

If you got a lot of Select All That Apply, I'm pretty sure you passed. Those are the hardest questions the test wil dole out. You should hear something within the next few weeks.

I hope you passed. Good luck with that.

Hi everybody i took my pn this friday. The computer stop in 95, I really feel that i didn't pass because some were hard and i had to guess on them i don't know if this is normal. Also I haven't heard anyone pass with 95 of the questions is always 85. I just need to wait and let it to God in his hands.

Moved to the NCLEX forum

You can pass with any number between minimum and maximum

Good luck

Hey guys, like everyone here who's worried about their NCLEX exam stopping at 85, i'm anxious to say that i'm one of these people.. i'm hoping that my results will say that i have passed.. i'm not sure exactly what kinds of questions i got but all i remember i got the last question wrong, and a math question wrong also.. im thinking that the only reason if you stopped at 85 and you failed is that you did HORRIBLE (no offense) like to the point where the computer doesn't even want to ask you anymore questions.. i feel as if im in that spot right now.. i mean the prioritizing was ok, and the application was too but i dont know about my SATAs (about 6) and my meds (about 10).. i hope i did okay overall.. what do you guys think? i mean i was calm throughout the test i felt as if i was taking a regular exam you know.. and as of the 85 questions, i really think if you're doing bad, then the computer should ask you more than the minimum as a result to compensate but if you're way too low i think it'll just give up on you but thats what i think.. i just hope i pass:sniff: good luck to all!
