should I put it on my resume?

Published

I got my nursing license in Sept 2014 and I took a position at the local PSA healthcare in my town. Now I ended up not really enjoying my position because the father was a bit overwhelming, the MAR wasn't updated so I had to go by what mom wanted, there wasnt any ppe, and I felt like the company in general didn't really make an effort address my concerns or even just hand me my paperwork or get back to me. Either way, i just don't think home health is for me. I think I'm more comfortable with being in a facility.

So I'm thinking of putting in my two weeks notice. I was only with that company for less than a month. Do I still have to put it on my resume? It was such a short amount of time. How do I account for the experience I gained? I became pretty good at straight caths because of it.

Specializes in ER, M/S, transplant, tele.

I can't think of any reason for you to NOT put it on your resume. I can understand how you might think it would look bad to have a job for such a short duration, but unless your resume is riddled with them or you were actually terminated from it, a prospective employer will probably just want to know why you decided to leave. AND what about background checks...attached to your SSN somewhere I imagine there is an accounting of all jobs ever held. Better to be honest than not be hired for falsifying an application.

My other advice here would be, when you do apply for another job, in the interview when they ask you about it don't make negative/disparaging comments about the position or company. Employers think if you make negative statements about one place, what will you say about them in the future? Keep it general such as "I just didn't find Home Health to be as enjoyable as working in a facility with others".

Hats off to nurses who can do home health, especially with children...the thought of either makes me shudder!!

Good luck to you!

Leave it off. You took a position, left it shortly after. A future employer will see a big red flag.

I wouldn't put it on your resume however I would still be honest about having the job. I am in a similar situation where I took a job but then found out that I would be moving shortly after (about a month as well). I let the employer know and they were understanding of my situation. I plan to not put it on my resume but at my next interview to make a point to discuss that I was in fact hired, the experience I gained, and my reason for having to leave. I actually spoke to my nurse manager from my previous job that I am being forced to leave and that it what she suggested! Good Luck, hope you find something you love!
