I need your opinion.....

I am currently waiting to hear from a university regarding my application. I'd love to get into the school but it may take me a long, long time to get my bachelor's.

I am married, father of two and working fulltime so I am only able to attend school part time in the evenings. My biggest fear is that it may take me a long, long time to finally get my bachelor's. I want to get my RN license very badly like most of us do but the quick route that I had planned (Nassau Community College) backfired on me when I received my denial letter. I didn't have a plan B so I thought about going to a 4 year school but like I've said numerous times already (hehe) it will take a long time.

Do you think I should just go for it? I don't think a 3.55 GPA will get me into Nassau Community College's evening program so I most likely won't apply there again. I really do not have many options at the moment =(.

What should I do?

Simple...Get all or close to all your pre-reqs. done and keep reapplying. Dont give up just because you got denied once. At my C.C. you have to reapply every semester even if you get denied....dont get lost in their pile of applications, stay in their face.

They only accept 18 students for the evening program and trust me when I tell you that my 3.55 GPA most likely won't get me into the program.

Re-apply at Nassau and maybe one or two other community colleges in relatively close proximity to you, take your pre-req's so either way you have a leg up on whichever program you enter, be it 4 year or 2 year. Something will come thru for you. I wish you all the best.

I agree with Weytn...100%

Good luck in whatever you decide to do. :)

Are there any other schools in your area you can apply to? I know alot of people drive over an hour each way to school (me).

When I was going back for my BSN I attended a 4-year college that had a very large number of students who were moms and working their way toward their RNs one course at a time. It was not unusual for them to take 7 or 8 years to finish their nursing program and the college was very agreeable to this. This can be done. You need to make sure that you coordinate the sequencing of classes with the counselors for the nursing program so you don't end up taking a nursing class too early before you need it. The only problem with taking a longer time to get your degree like this is that some colleges are sticklers about how recently your sciences were taken. Some schools want your A&P and micro taken within 5 years of starting nursing classes. Others are more lenient and will allow a 10-year window. But wherever you end up going, check this out and plan the class sequence carefully.

Best of luck to you! I am like the female version of you (LOL) - full time work, mother of two, etc. I was also denied the first time I applied at my local CC, so I took pre-reqs and other classes that I can apply to a Bachelor's later and finally got in this year. You might go ahead and do the Bachelor's route, but then keep applying to the CC and if you get in there, then your credits should transfer. That is an option. You can also get yourself put on as many wait-lists as possible and take any classes you will need to graduate while you are waiting. I know it can be very frustrating, but be persistant and keep trying, you can do it - even if it does take a long time, it will be worth it in the end! Best of luck to you!

Reapply, Reapply, Reapply, is all I can say, dont give up on your dreams. The devil is a lie.

Where one door close another will open.

Well I got into a BSN program and although it will take me longer to graduate, I am going to go for it.

That's great that you got into a bsn program. Which one? I was accepted into Molloy for the fall 2005 semester. I did not take it since financially there was no way that I could afford. Just as well since I wouldn't have been able to go for medical reasons.

Good luck to you

Awesome! Congrats! In the long run, it may not take you that much longer - by the time you figure in pre-reqs and all that. I am so excited for you! Congratulations - enjoy! :)
