I am looking to apply at TSUM for their Associates Degree in Nursing for Fall 2009. But I have been going back and forth wondering is it better to go through some other medical program ( CNA, Med. Assisting, LPN) first before attempting Nursing School?? I have been reading a lot of the posting on this site and realize that this is going to be tough. But I know that it will be worth it. I will be working fulltime throughout my program and I just hope that this won't affect me to badly. I have also been going back and forth about whether I am going to go at this program fulltime or part time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I looked into some of those cna/med assist programs and I just decided that they were time consuming and expensive for the very low pay you will make when you finish. I was looking to have something to do WHILE I was in RN school. Then I learned that after your 2nd semester of RN school, you have had enough clinicals and training that your are qualified to work as a nursing assistant in a hospital and most doctors offices. So basically you get the training and a introduction to "real" nursing to see if you like it for the same tuition cost...maybe less. I say less, because many of the RN programs can be done at state colleges and many of those other programs are only at these "career schools" that are private and VERY over priced.
So, there is my two cents!
Thanks for your input. I am just torn between jumping into an RN program or trying to get some other certification first. But you are right a lot of the CNA programs are costly. I will just pray about it and let God lead me to where I should be. Thanks again.
