I need advice PLS

Published

Hello! I'm a 3rd year college BSN student in the Philippines and now residing in Florida for one year.

I'm a CNA. Still waiting for a call from the hospital I applied in.

I want to finish my study and get an RN degree as soon as possible, that is why I want to work on that hospital so I could enroll on its Nursing Program.

I talked to my friends about my plan, some advised me to go back in my country and finish study there, since I only need one year to graduate. Yet some of them advised me to work here as a CNA for a while & save money for Nursing school or submit an application for student loan.

Oh! I almost forget to tell that before i get enrolled into a CNA program, I went to a community school here in FL, I had scheduled a counseling appointment, since I am not yet a US citizen, I took an examination that will test my English Skills, the result was not that bad, I got 111% on Reading/ESSAY but only 82% on Language & Grammar. They advised me to take the last level of English class for 6 months, after that they will have me take the CPT (COLLEGE PLACEMENT TEST),if i didn't pass the CPT then I need to take a Algebra/Science/Grammar Class or it depends on which particular subject I failed on that CPT.

:confused:I would love to study while working here in Florida. Okay let's say I am going to take the 6 month English Class, then after that I will take CPT ,what "if" i fail? And "if" I pass then LUCKY ME :yeah: ! My next step is to take all the pre requisite subjects ,before they would allow me to be officially in the Nursing Program, the subjects I am going to take depend on the result of my evaluated foreign transcript. If i study here, how long will it take me to get into the Nursing Program?

:confused:If i go back in our country,of course I must have money for my tuition fee. Well on my situation right now,the reason why I also took CNA is to get a job and make money for the mean time,to support my family and save money for future use, My parents' income are just enough for our daily needs. I will try my luck on the hospital i applied in,hoping that I can get into their Nursing Program, but of course before that ,I should work with them for a while..yes,working and studying. I would love that!

My question here is, How long will it take me before i can get into the Nursing Program?

:confused:If i go back in our country, It will only take me one year then finally I'm a graduate nurse. And if I graduated from there, am I allowed to take NCLEX right away even if I don't get a license from Philippines?

I'm sorry, i have so many questions on my mind, I really want to finish my BSN course.

I need your advice guys.

Help me make a better decision. I would really appreciate any opinion & suggestion. :)

Only you can decide for yourself, but just to guide you in making your final decision, here are some points you have to know if you don't already know yet:

If you enroll in the US, they will ask you to repeat all your clinicals and major nursing courses.

If you’re not yet a US Citizen, you will need to file for a re-admission document so they don’t say you abandoned residency in the US (check out immig.’s website) if you go back to the Philippines to continue your studies.

If you can work as a CNA and support your schooling in the US that would be good. But are you willing to repeat almost everything? Put into consideration the time and $ you will spend.

Some states will allow you take the NCLEX even without the local Philippine board.

I wish you well in whatever you decide on. I was in your shoes before, I went back to the Philippines and now I work as an RN in the US.

Im a graduate nurse in the Philippines and just passed the NCLEX-RN Today.... Things are complicated when you continue your nursing course here in USA, you have to repeat a lot of Clinical and other subjects that they required here. Unlike when you go back and finished your degree in the Philippines. You Just have to make sure that your nursing school is legit and the curiculum is equavalent to the international nursing programs. Ofcourse you can go back here and apply for NCLEX-RN even if you didnt have PRC license from P.I, although some states they require cgfns exam, but in your case since you are in USA you can just apply for credential evaluation by the CGFNS instead of taking the exam. Then you can process your NCLEX-RN application. So I suggest, just go back there, your parents have to make sacrifices to send you to school again. It's like an investment. Anyway when your RN here it will pay off soon. So heres the steps:

1. Finished your BSN in the Philippines

2. Go back here in US and Apply for CGFNS Credential Evaluation

though you have to accomplished some of the forms from your college school in PI before you come back here so it will save you time.

3. After the CGFNS issued the report [6-8 weeks processing upon receipt of requirements and payment], You can move on to your NCLEX examination.

5. Make sure that while your schooling, and applying for CGFNS start studying for your NCLEX so you'll save a lot of time. you'll probably finished everything in 20 months if everything gets well together. :-) stay focused! Hope this helps you.

You didn't say what your work status is here in the US. What kind of work permit do you have?

You many want to take a look at the international forum.

If your intent is to stay here and work as a nurse then you need to go to school here. I am sorry, but I have worked with nurses for other countries many times over the years and their training is different then in the US. It is not the same. The focus of care is different, the level of nursing knowledge is different and the tools they use are different.

If you want to work here -- then study here.
