so i just got my clinical assignment today for med surg-2 and i have a male clinical instructor. i'm very excited because i've never had a male nursing instructor, clinical instructor, and rarely worked with a male nurse before. there are a couple of males in my class and i just think its great more man are in nursing let alone teaching nursing.

has anyone else ever had a male ci before ? if so what was it like ? was it any different than having a female instructor ?

thanks for the insight.

I had a male instructor once...he was intelligent and demanding but I liked him.

I have a male skills instructor and he is wonderful. He also does clinicals, but I have not been lucky to have him yet. He is very knowledgeable and he has real life practical experience which he is always willing to impart. I have never heard him lose patience and he has a good sense of humor and people respond very positively to his teaching style. Also he is very clear in his instruction and he makes it clear what are his expectations. I hope you have a wonderful experience.

I had a male CI in school 25 years ago -- for Peds, surprisingly enough. The only difference I would say was that he was maybe not as "warm & fuzzy" as some of the female instructors (but, then, plenty of our female instructors were not particularly warm & fuzzy, either). The last nursing program in which I taught had a few male clinical instructors.

I say, a good instructor is a good instructor -- the other stuff doesn't matter.

My first instructor was a male and he was the best I ever had! We still keep in touch and he's written letters of reference for me.

Well thats great. Thanks for the insight. I can't wait to meet him. Ofcourse when I was explaining this to my fiance he got kind of quiet. He couldn't quite understand why I've been looking forward to having a male CI. I've just never had one before and look foward to it !

The male Ci's I have had are more relaxed than the females. Less eat your young kind of thing.
