I made a stupid stupid mistake in my class!!

Published

hi everyone

i just wanted to vent a bit

so i'm finishing up my pre-reqs online (starting ns in the fall)

i'm taking sociology online, and tonight was my open book finial.

the finial was 50 questions divided into 2 parts 25 questions each. i printed both sections to work on before i submitted the answers online.

why oh why did i submit my part one answers to the part two answer key section???!!!! :smackingf  i resubmitted my answers but i can't delete the first answer key. i emailed my professor on my mistake but i have no idea if he will accept my second submission. it could very well mean a big fat f on my finial. how could i have been sooooo stupid. i double checked all my answers before i hit the submit button and never double checked to see if the section number printed on my hard copy matched the section number on my online answer key.

i'm not 100% sure of what my finial grade will be, my assignments were multiple choice and short answer sections. the lowest grade i got was 88, everything was between 92-100. i missed one discussion part cause i was in spain. each discussion part is worth 10 points, i had 6 sections and got a 9 on one part, everything else i got the full 10 points.

anyway, i might have just screwed up my grade. im so upset at myself. :(

thanks for listening

I would think that your instructor would surely see your mistake and allow you to fix that boo boo. If he does not, and your grade suffers, then you should appeal through the chain of command in your school. In the final end, all they can do is to deny your appeal, but you possibly could get it rectified by using the school's grievance body. Good luck.

I took a patho test this semester, and we are allowed to write on our test booklet. We also fill out the scantron, and turn that in. We leave the test booklet at our seat and then leave the room until the hour is over. We come back, and he goes over the answers right then so we don't have to wait for him to input the grades. I got 100 on this particular test, and was very excited. I happen to look my grade up on blackboard the next week, and he has recorded a 64. I fire off an e-mail asking to look at it, maybe there's someone else with my last name, or maybe I skipped a line on the bubble sheet...well, I take a look at my scantron the next day, and I only filled in 32 of 50 bubbles. I forgot to transfer the last 18 answers. Since we keep our test booklets while he goes over the answers, I can't use that to contest the grade. There is no way to do anything about it. What's saving me is that we have 6 exams plus the final, and he lets us drop the lowest non-final. I only lost my safety net, not any chance of getting the A that I've been working mt a$$ off for. I have a previous degree, 2 years of prereqs, SAT, SATII (x3), ACT, LSAT, PSAT,...I've never done anything like that before. And you can bet I'll never do it again. Hopefully your professor will switch them for you, if not I bet you'll learn from it like I did. It's REALLY irritating though, isn't it! I hated myself for about a week, then realized I now had to get As on everything else this semester. Good luck!

I totally think your prof will see the answers and understand. I am sure they come across things like that with the online students quite often, let alone their regular in-class students. I have done things like that before and I have to admit the prof was understanding all the time. I even had a professor grade an exam with the wrong key before, so they do it too. Especially in this situation where there were 2 parts to the exam and if it is pretty clear that you submitted them to the wrong section based on your answers then he should be forgiving. BTW, did you email the correct answers when you first contacted him?

Hi everyone

Ive been trying to jump on to give everyone an update.

All is well, my professor responded to my email bright and early this morning. He totally understood and deleted my first post that i messed up. I got a 96 on both sections so what a relief.

Thanks everyone for your input and support

as always I appreciate it

don't know what I would do without this forum

So glad it worked out! Thankfully your professor got back with you quickly so you know where you stand. Congrats on the grade, too! :)

Thanks guys, I think I might get an A in the class, im worried though cause I missed the first discussion section due to my trip but hopefully it'll all work out, i'll find out my grade for the course on monday.

It's nervewracking sometimes when waiting for the final grade to come in, isn't it? Here's to you getting an A in the class! :)

mystiqx,

Mistakes happen! That is why they are called learning experiences!! How good of a rapport do you have with this instructor? Can you go to him/her and explain what happened and see if it can be changed? I know I did something wrong on a test like that and let my instructor know and she went in and changed it. It doesn't hurt to ask and see! Good luck and I hope that it works out for you~

So glad it worked out ok. I can see myself making that same mistake. I am glad your teacher was understanding. Great job on the 96.

Good luck in nursing school.
