I love my job!

i finished my 2nd week of my 6 week orientation yesterday morning, and let me tell you, it is awesome!

i work nights in a peds surgical unit, pre-op and post-op patients, the night shift is very busy at times, but it is "relaxed" meaning that there are no directors, no doctor rounds, occacional new admits, and routine meds such as pain meds and antibiotics.

it is great. i do love it very much.:redpinkhe

i am going back to get my bsn, i have one class to take to start the bsn program at my university.

i am glad that everything worked out for me. i had a baby during the middle of nursing school, i worked as a cna where i work now, and i took 3 hard months of studying for my nclex.

3 months to me was perfect for studying. to me, repetition is extremely helpful, so i studied day and night, night and day from monday thru monday.... except the days that i worked, which was the minimum i was contracted for one 8 hour shift per pay period.

i do have a problem with describing my patients on my nursing notes though.

a lot of times i do not know what to write, and then when i do write something, i have to edit it per my preceptor's request.... so that gets me frustrated!

anyone have advice about that? about nursing notes?:o

glad to hear you are loving your new position.

i havent started my RN position yet, but during my externship and clinicals I was always complemented on my nurses notes. when doing an admission note, i would write the head to toe assessment out by systems. when doing q2 hr or q4r notes, i would record any changes and always write "will continue to monitor". if there were no changes I would right "assessment unchanged".

i hope this info has helped you somewhat. if you have specific questions, please ask. your preceptor and coworkers should also be an excellent resource. i know it sucks to have your work corrected, but in a few months you will have it . remember you are a new grad and its expected:)
