I Just Need To Get Accepted Into A Nursing School

Published

I went to UT Austin for 2 years and was not accepted into their nursing program. My overall GPA is 3.01 and my prerequisite GPA is about a 2.67. Looking at other schools, it seems that even gaining acceptance to THEM is a long shot. Does anyone have any suggestions to what schools I should apply to? Any advice is greatly appreciated. There are also SOME course I have not taken, maybe 2 or three (English 2, microbio lab, and growth and development).

Sorry, but your pre-req GPA is kind of low in terms of the current applicant pool for nursing programs at traditional (non-commercial) schools. The competition is fierce, particularly at the schools with reasonable tuition rates. You will need to broaden your horizons and investigate all the schools that might work for you. Many of them will provide you with statistics (e.g., % of qualified applicants accepted & their avg GPA) that can help you narrow your focus.

If all else fails, try repeating your pre-reqs to improve your GPA. Good Luck!

I don't agree that your GPA is too low. I think it is where you live. Have you considered moving? I live in Maine and I know many people that are starting with me in Fall (class of 2013) that had an overall GPA of around a 2.6-2.8 and they got in just fine. (this is a 2 year RN program at a VERY affordable nursing school) I think if you are having issues getting into a school where you live, you should consider applying outside of your area, perhaps in a more rural setting.

What school in Maine?

I am attending Central Maine Medical Center school of nursing. But also some of the community colleges up here (that have about a one year wait) are fairly easy to get into as long as you pull at least C's in your pre reqs, and "pass" the hesi. You don't have to be an A student.
