Hi there friends,

My name is Marie K. Cline. I'm a international-trained nurse from Cebu, Philippines. I live here in Ohio now since Dec. 26, 2006. Ever since I got here it had been toil for me getting to qualify for the nclex-rn. As any international-trained graduates I had to take on the toefl.ibt test (english profeciency exam) and the cgfns to qualify for the nclex. I failed my first take for the toefl.ibt last sept. 08 and passed my 2nd take of nov.08. I passed my cgfns qualifications of oct'08. Now all I have to do is pass the nclex-rn to be a registered nurse and so I can get a job here in united states. Unfortunately I took my 1st take last yr of july 25th of 2008 with 75questions, but I didnt made it. So I decided to study harder and see if I could revamp myself and do a better job the next time around. So I did my best, actually my very best. I wasn't really a bad studid. Actually I was top in my class back home (Phils. ) but somehow I just couldn't pass this test. I took my 2nd try for the exam last wednesday of Aug 13' 09. After I got home, I tried the trick yesterday and it let me go through the cc/payment option. I was totally upset. I was bawling yesterday, even today, this morning, but now I've found peace with myself I guess I'm ready to get back in track, but I just couldn't believe that I didnt made it because I was really calm and sure of myself when i took the test except for the calculation part which I was totally bummed and cofused if I had the right answers, other than that I had SATA's and Med-surg problems that I was really sure I had them right but those 4 calculation problems I had was a total mind-game for me. Mini-maini-moo...geez i was just totally guessing. I had the same problem with my first try last year drugs and calculation. I'll be waiting for my paper trail (big brown envelope as they say hehee) so I can see where I headed wrong. Other than that, I just felt really down right now. But I'm not giving up. It's awful to fail...but we won't really appreciate success if we dont fall right?

Like one poet had once said, "The highest reward for a man's toil is not what he gets for it, but what he becomes by it."- by John Rustin

It's tough it really tough guys, for all of us that didn't made it. But let's be happy for the ones that did made it. Let's help each other get through this last pedestal for our success to become a bonafide registered nurses in the future. It's really awful that we have to go through this challenge in our lives inorder to be measured if we are adequate nurses but the fact remains the board just wanna make sure that we are reliable nurses to serve our patients/clients and that we are responsible leaders for our colleagues.

I wanna share this poem to you guys that have truly made my day despite of the fact that I didnt made it of passing the exam. I found this poem in one of my chicken soup for the soul book and it goes like this:

"DON'T QUIT" -BY Clinton Howell

When things go wrong,

As they sometimes will,

When the road you've truding seems all uphill,

when the funds are low, and the debts are high,

and you want to smile, but you have to sigh.

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest if you muchst, but don't quit.

Life is queer with a twist and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,

when he might have won had he only had stuck it out;

Don't quive up though the pace seems slown,

You might succeed with another blow.

Success is a failure turned inside out,

the silver lingina a tint of the clouds of doubt.

And you may never can tell how close you are,

it may be near when it seems so far;

So stick to the fight when you're at your hardest hit,

It's when things seemed worst,

that YOU MUST NOT QUIT!

Don't ever give up.

"I hope I have made some of you out there hopeful..for I am hopeful too that one day I'll pass this exam once and for all. It may be a long and winding road even turbulent and bloody but hey we'll get there! In my side of the story I do only have one chance for this exam becuase if I don't make it then I have to go through another set of toef.ibt and cgfns again, which I certainly don't wanna go through all those exams again. I mention earlier right that I'm an international-trained nurse. Well, inorder for us to qualify for the boards we have to take on the toefl.ibt and cgfns, now my toefl and cgfns are going to expire this nov.04 of this year so If I dont pass the nclex this time around then I have to apply for the boards starting back at one and that is to take on another english proficiency exam and entrance exam. So it totally sucks! But I don't be negativist! I wanna be hopeful and optimist. So that's why i'm encourage everyone who's in my shoe to the same this. Stay Positive and Reach your dreams. Never give up on those dreams ever. Do not let anybody pull you down. Stand up with a Smile and Go on Living. Live your dreams. And for all of us that didn't made it hey, let's all help one other and make it a success. Cheer up! It's not the end of it all...we have to stand up tall, and aim high ti'll we reach the top with a sigh."-Marie Dee K. Cline

I took mine for 2nd attemp on Aug 2,2009.Until now I haven't get my result yet.I am so anxious and scare.It's shut off @ 75.They were 1 SATA,1 fill in blank,more than 6 meds,and lot of delegation and priority.I am just pray and crossing my finger for myself and of course for you,too.

I do understand how you feel because I am in the same situation as you and so many others are as well. I also prepared very well for the second round, was way more prepared and had very difficult type questions and all, run out of time and somehow didn't pass. Did the "trick" which is really not scientific let me go cc, but...whatever I assume not passing at this point.

You have to just be compassionate with yourself and see that we as ESL (English as a second language) are in a disvantage. But remember that in no way at all you are a lesser person or not able to be a great professional. Somehow we have problems understanding the nature of this test.

Consider this as an opportunity to be able to understand how some people suffer for no reason at all. Some of those we will be taking care of soon. Consider yourself blessed with the opportunity to become a warrior who eventually will conquer this amazing challenge and come out a stronger in the other side. You are no different than any other nurse up to this test but the force to the obstacle in front of you will make you stronger and stronger to deal with the amazing difficulties that await us in the end of this round. And also remember that this test is in the end is a paper tiger that ultimately have no control over your life.

so you're in ohio now? i just wonder what's your status here in the US.. i 'm also a graduate from the Philippines and i just took the nclex last aug 10th. i'm a permanent resident residing in CA and the brn here didn't required me to have all those other exams..

well good luck to you.. i know what you're exactly feeling right now though it's my first try to test last monday. i still don't have the result yet. did the trick and i got the pop-up. i'm still crossing my fingers.

So sorry to hear you did not make it @ your second attempt. Just relax and stay calm when next you schedule to take the test. Failing NCLEX exam is not end of your career. Buckle up and study your weakest area. Better still go over your content and make sure you understand what the question is asking you. Do practise in test mode, that way you will keep track of your score and never cram for such exam because it will do no good craming. hi, im so sorry to hear that you didnt make it the second try. i to came from the phil graduated march 2006 and it took me 5 trys to finally be a registered nurse. took the test last mon aug 10 and found out i pass last thurs from the Ca BON. anyway after reading your post i can tell you have that determination and fighting spirit that is a good thing it will help you allot. my advice for you is study again focus on your weaknesses and do a 100+ questions everyday and try to aim to always get a percentage of 75% or higher that way you can gauge yourself that's what i did. and also in everything that you do always put God first. hope that helps you. oh my test scores were 76, 75, 75 ,75 and finally i passed at 75:wink2: if we can do it you also can surely do it. Good luck on your future test and enjoy it cause it will be your last.:nurse:

Hello there! Yes you're right, I'll consider it as a lesson learn. And yup, I won't give up neither should anyone of us who are in the same desposition as we are. It is a the hard test, probably the hardest test ever, inorder to measure our capabilities if we are well-deserving nurses to be called an RN. And truthfully I do hope one day that all of can achieve that goal. And I'm really glad that they made this website, because it really made a difference bridging us all, to find comfort and peace in helping one another, and to inspire each other. And I truly appreciate your sincerity and for your respond. You have made me felt like I wasn't alone and you have inspired me not to give up but keep on going battling this test, like any warrior does. Thank you very much!

Hi there! I just read your post, thank you so much for responding, I truly appreciate it. Yes I'm here in ohio and I'm a premanent resident here as well. Yeah, they're kinda strict in here with their requirements. Esp. with the credentials it has to be all valid and they do want the toef.ibt. So, even if I passed the Ielts the last time they demanded for me to take on the toefl.ibt coz that's what they are requiring to take on the nclex so is the cgfns. It took me a yr to accomplish all two exams (I got here Dec. 26, 2006 and applied for the nclex right away. I accredited for cgfns by Oct 25, 2007 and Passed the toefl.ibt of Nov. 04, 2007, took my first take for the nclex-rn July 25, 2008 but failed and finally did my 2nd take for the same exam this Aug. 13, 2009 but failed again in my desmise. However, I'm not quitting. Still, I feel really bad and exhausted. Y'know?) I am really in awe that CA brn doesn't require that over there, I'm glad you didn't have to go through the same scenario as I am coz take from me it's really a toil. And sometimes...I mean most of the time it just get's to me sometimes I feel like my head is going to explode already. Hehehe! Sorry. I am going to reapply again by Wednessday and hopefully there'll be no problems with my paperwork and so I can get ready for my next exam. I'm really worried coz this will be my last chance or else I'll have to redo everything again from the beginning and I dont even want to think about it. But it really gets though..I can't help worrying I guess. But like our friends here in the website have said...Don't quit and don't give up. I'll try to keep that in mind though how hard it is to pass this test. By the way My test result showed that I have 3 below the passing standard and all 5 near the passing standard which totally blow me off. But I'm not giving up. I hope somebody could help me prepare for this and make it once and for all this time around. But I know alot has to do with me...so I will keep on Studying, studying, and studying. Again, thank you for taking the time to email/IM me I truly appreciate it. :p:p

Hi there! thank you very much for being so nice and trying to help me out I truly appreciate it. I am going to print this study guide that you've shared with me immediately. Again, thank you, thank you very much. I am really grateful. It hasn't been really that easy for me esp. the test demands alot from us. And it had been a total roller-coaster ride and a challenging journey for me trying to take on the nclex-rn but I know I'm not alone there are many of us international-trained graduates who shares my experience. and knows how hard it is for all of us to get here and be able to get this oppurtunity to take on the exam. It may difficult and their may be pain, tears, and sorrow, but like they said, in every rain and storm their's a sun and a rainbow of hope. And despite all that circumstances, we should stand up tall and smile, these are just part of life...challenges that are worth fighting for. I've also learned to value our oppurtunity, our deligence to succeed, our hope for tomorrow, and the chance of becoming a bonafide RN as a previlege and a great reward for all of in the future, and for those who made it congratulations to you you well deserve it for all your hardwork and endurance. We truly envy you, but one day, will be right were you are. So for all of us who are still trying to take on the test, be reminded, "You just smile..." And stick to the fight. Coz I am and I am with you. Let's help one another, I'm sure we can achieve anything in the world with all of us helping one another.

And sweety! Again, thank you thank you for responding to me. Thank you for helping me. You neve know how much you've made my day and how much you've helped me. Again, truly am grateful for your time to send me a msgs or two. A word of encourgement is alot more rewarding than anything in this world. And I owe that to you. Thank you.1_114286610m.jpg
