I graduated nursing school and I dont know where I should take the NCLEX

I passed nursing school exit and graduated yay!

Now the conundrum this time is where should I take the license exam????

I live(rent a room) in florida right now but my family are in texas.

I dont know if I should take the NCLEX in florida then get endorsement to texas or move to texas to where my family is and take the nlcex there but texas BON has another exam requirement called nursing jurisprudence before youre approved to take the nclex.

I know its a silly matter of which state gets my licensure virginity, but to me this is kind of a big deal.

Id like to hear some people's advice on what to do...

You should get licensed in whatever state you plan on living and working in.

In my state it is much easier to apply for an initial license in the state where you completed your schooling. The students who have applied to other states have faced delays. Your mileage may vary.

Why not settle things in the order they already are? No extra upheavals necessary: Take the exam where you are living, where you went to school. Pass the exam, get your license, then get an endorsement to wherever you plan to move....and work.

Exception to that would be if you are dying to move to Texas right now, in which case move, get settled, do whatever their additional requirement is, then apply for licensing there.

Personally, I'd do whatever was the least-stressful thing for you right now.

i just want to make sure i'll be comfortable when i pay for the license exam. i was looking at the applications for both states but the only thing about texas is that they want you to pass another exam before you can sit for nclex. Fl BON doesnt have that... my thing with florida is that we dont have a house here anymore and actually, i hate my living situation right now but im making the best of it. i managed to graduate nursing school though so its not that bad...

If you ever want to be licensed in TX you'll have to do that anyway.

Your issue/problem isn't what State you test in, but what state you become licensed in. You can test in any State you want and be licensed in whatever state you send your paperwork for licensure to. The issue is where you send your licence application (FL vs TX). For example, you can test in Florida but send your license application to Texas. I have friends who tested in the State that borders ours but their license app was sent to the state we live in. they did it that way because they were able to get a test date sooner in the other state than in our state.

You just have to decide what State you want to get licensed in first before you schedule your exam so that pearson vue knows what State BON to send the results to.

I, personally, sent my licensure application to CT. I had scheduled a test day/time in RI because that testing facility had a date much sooner than the one closest to me in my own state. I ended up changing it from RI to CT because the CT facility ended up having an slot open up that was even sooner than the RI day.

As someone else has already stated, you can take the NCLEX in any state you want. It's just a matter of where the results go, or rather, where you apply for licensure. It does not matter where you test.

it is easier, faster and cheaper to test in the state from which you graduated nusing school as the information about you is already at the BON in that state. Then you pay a fee and transfer to Texas.

You cannot become licensed in Tx without passing the Jurisprudence exam. No exceptions. Our NPA is unique - it's important that everyone understand the differences.
